Grade Shop prices
«

Theoretically, I can change the grade shop prices. IIRC the grade prices in ToD2 PS2 are reputed to be crazy high, so much that they were reduced in the PSP version.
I believe that I have found the data for shop prices and could change them in the release. I don't really want to make this to be too much of a cheat or anything, but I do believe that since they were officially reduced in the PSP version, it wouldn't be so much of a stretch to mirror them.
What do you think, and if someone could post a price comparison, that would be cool.

I don't think there would be anything wrong with changing the Grade Shop prices, especially if they were reduced in the PSP release. I haven't played either, so I can only offer opinion, not any fact. Did they change the rate at which Grade can be obtained in the PSP version as well? Or just the prices? It seems like that could be a factor. I don't know, I see the Grade Shop as just being a fun reward for completing the game and as an incentive to replay it at some point. I don't think that changing the values to be lower and more accessible causes any negative effects on the game, so if they were changed, I wouldn't mind.

it's technically not what a translation
does
. in this case, however, there's the PSP version, so it might not be a bad idea, especially if they're seriously insane. another alternative would be to have an additional patch, or an alternate version, that changes those values.

I think it's a good idea if the PS2's prices were that high. But ToD2 itself offers some pretty crazy grade when fighting bosses without even really doing any insane combos (I remember fighting the Laguna Ruins boss and got 30ish grade and I didn't go for anything fancy, but it was the highest difficulty level at the time though). But since the prices were officially lowered during the translation process, it brings up something that we would not have had foresight of if the patch was done before the PSP version came out. Now that this has happened, I think it would be good idea to lower the prices in the patch. I would think people may have complained if you finished the patch before the PSP version was released and then found out the prices were lowered.

As far as I can tell, there are four of them that cost
5,000
...
each.
The typical max grade for a normal fight is 4.00 and the worst is -2.00. I think bosses are max 40.00 and and minimum -10.00.
I seem to recall that people also complain about how hard it is to get grade in this game in the first place.
Shrug. The grade earned algorithm doesn't even make sense to me. I've done things during tests that are completely stupid which would definitely earn you a negative score in a game like Symphonia or Abyss, and walked out a full 4.00. I've also had fights where I feel that I did quite well and came out with a mediocre score. Don't ask.

I totally agree with that idea. I don't remember the exact cost of everything in the PS2 version, but I do remember that it was almost impossible to buy something really interesting in your first game.
Plus, earning grade is awfully difficult once you get past a certain part of the game (around the Swordian arc). Almost every battle cost you a - 2.00 unless you can do a no-damage/no-item/100hits+/under 30 seconds/usage of 4 hi-ougi battle. (I'm exagerrating a bit, right
)
Boss battle give pretty decent grade, but you can't possibly farm grade from these alone.

Thats on normal mode
easy 2.00 grade
normal 4.00 grade
second 6.00 grade
hard 8.00 grade
mania 10.00 grade
Unknown 12.00 grade
boss battles are multiplied by 10. Lowest grade you can get is -2.00 in normal battles and -10.00 in boss battles

Speaking of multiple playthroughs... Wasn't it the case that you couldn't finish Judas' Majinrengokusatsu until you're on a third playthrough? Was it just some arbitrary reason they made it a 3rd playthrough? Because you already know who Judas really is by the end of the game, so it really should be a second playthrough... I don't want to start a list of things we should change, but it seems pretty stupid to me to wait for a third playthrough to get that move for no good reason.

Oh wow... The prices for those 5000 grade items are slightly less insane. It's still pretty crazy, but the price cuts are significant. What were they thinking of putting no encounters at 2500? Effectively it's paying money to earn less money.
Now with this, I wish to push for reducing the prices in the patch. Looks like we miss out on 10x EXP and double grade, but the price cuts are more than a good thing.

well, I've modified the hex that theoretically corresponds to the grade prices to match the PSP version. There's nothing else in the grade shop file that matches up like this, so unless they did something completely crazy when making this game, it should work.
but I have no way of testing it myself, so it'll be up to those who play the public beta to check it out.

Kogahazan > Yup, the Judas thing is for real. No complete Majin Rengokusatsu until you hit your third playthrough AND you get to the point he reveals himself.
Now that you talk about it, it might be interesting to change this, don't you think ? Like, to make the extension available once you hit the requiered point on the SECOND playthrough.
(Is this technically doable, however ?)
