In all the translations I've been doing, I have been asuming that Elraine using the word "Kami" meant that her deity was a god, despite it being a goddess, that was basically for shock value. Then I played the PS2 remakeof Tales of Destony (Which I highly recommend,) and it said "Goddess Atamoni" and "Kami" in the same scene, do I decided to go looking about how the japanese refer to their goddesses, and found this (Izanami and Izanagi are goddesses):
Kami (神, Kami?) is the Japanese word for the objects of worship or awe in the Shinto faith. Although the word is sometimes translated as "god" or "deity," Shinto scholars point out that such a translation can cause a serious misunderstanding of the term (Ono, 1962). In some instances, such as Izanagi and Izanami, kami are personified deities"
So, "Kami" is just how deities are referred to, and therefore, Atamoni, and Elraine's deity -are- goddesses, so ToD1 was never censored, and ToD2 will continue the same thing, rather than continuing any sort of censorship.
