I really need to start preparing a front page update, but...

Proofreading of the script translation is now at approximately 45%. If you think of the skits as 10% of the script, then approximately 35%. So pretty much over half of the main script I have translated has been checked. There have been many, many corrections, and much has been reworked to sound better, more in-character, and generally normalized.

In my quest to try and speed things up without compromising quality, I will soon prepare a test for an editor to further polish everything. I think I have large enough pool of material now to form a good test. It's my hope that all the editing passes will be streamlined by having them done in unison. I believe it will take far too long to do them one at a time.

In not-so-good script news, Lina still hasn't returned an email I sent three weeks ago, hoping she'd found time to work on the last bit of the script translation. Don't know what's going on with her but frankly it's begun to get a bit frustrating, as it's been over four months since I sent the files to her. Said she might not get to it right away, and that was fine, but... I really want this project done and over with THIS year. I guess I will have to see if Klarth can nudge her onto it (as he's able to instant message her), or find out if she's even going to find the time to do it relatively soon. I have a backup plan if she's unable to pull through, so like I said in a previous thread, don't worry too much about this. That said, I hope I don't have to initiate said backup plan, as it may cause yet another delay for the project release.

Although the essential ASM hacking is done, we're still tinkering with and further polishing things while we await more script progress. One thing that's happened is that skit subs got another upgrade. I do recall saying that the first sub appeared before the character faces did. It looked especially awkward on real systems since it takes extra time to seek the disc. I had hoped we'd be able to iron this out (but it wasn't essential), and I'm glad to say that has been! The text no longer appears before the faces are displayed.

Just because, a video of a skit in action:

http://www.tales-cless.org/video/ToP/topskit.avi

The text used to appear some 250-500ms before the faces did and it looked a little awkward. Now it's all in sync.

And the usual disclaimer, this video uses the same script as some old screenshots, and most definitely needs more work. However, the technicalities of the skit subbing hack are finished!

EDIT: And indeed, I have official confirmation that Lina's been unable to do any work on the script remainder. A shame, but we keep on hoping she'll produce something soon. I really await the day I can say the script is 100% translated as much as you do. :|
