I DID IT (August 18th, 2007)

I fixed the text centering!!
This was a programming hack. And well... I'm proud of myself because I consider this my first
REAL
assembly hack. The code is only around 10-12 instructions long, but it actually took me around 10 hours total to do the research required and debugging.
I'm very happy with this.
Compare to a screen before it was fixed:

Good job! It looks nice.
For the battle screens, does it also effect the size of the text box?

Luckily, the box calls on the same data to figure out how it's supposed to be sized. I originally thought I was going to have to write code for both the text and the box, which was thankfully not the case.
However I've just learned that this hack
doesn't
affect the centered town/dungeon names being displayed when you enter them (just the battle skill/item display and menu titles). I'll look into it tomorrow... and hope it'll be about on the same level of difficulty as this hack.
BTW the fact that this hack also centered the menu titles was a nice but unexpected bonus; I was only intending to get the battle skill display centered. Guess I jumped a little too far ahead when I figured it would also affect the map names, seeing how those two other instances were completely unrelated.

This is wonderful news, congratulations! I hope that more good news will be coming soon, I am always accompanying the progress of the translation on these forums. Once again congratulations!
Not exact cause my portuguese is pretty weak since I only speak it at home, but it's the basic message.
I too have been checking once every few weeks for the past 2-3 years, and am also really happy to see all the progress that's coming along =) Keep up the awesome work

Well done! Congratulations on your breakthrough! Typically whenever a programmer accomplishes a milestone like his first working ASM routine we buy him a beer. I guess a virtual beer will just have to do. *Forks over a frosty mug of Killians*

That is just so incredibly sweet.
The bonus of the self adjusting windows is also incredibly awesome!
It really gives room for a lot of flexibility and makes things look so perfect.

This is excellent! Those screens look great!
Good luck with centering the town/dungeon names, as well, Cless. Keep it up!

On a side note, you're really liking the replacement of the battle sprites too I see =P

Orrrr... I'm just lazy about swapping them back.
I like the things. They're the best sprites of any version of ToP, too bad Namco decided not to adjust the proportions of everything else in the PSP version.
In other news today, while I didn't reseach map name centering like I said I would, I DID figure out what's causing Habilain's DTE hack to crash the game on a real console. So, at this point in time, the game is back to "playable on real hardware" status. But damn does the game look dull running from my PS2 compared to emulator (much more vibrant).

It's good to hear that the game is playable on real hardware.
But you know, Cless...hearing you talk about the game in motion has got me to thinking. Is there any chance you could post a video of your work in action so we can actually see how it looks for ourselves? Perhaps a quick vid of a battle or something? No big deal if you can't, but damn....it sure would be cool!

Is it possible someone make graphics with the new proportions? >_> Er, not that I'm volunteering or anything... <_< (It's just the humanoid enemies' battle sprites, right?)
