Going against tradition (April 1, 2009)

So, yeah. I posted an update on the front page. And yes, it truly is real. It would have been nice to actually deliver the patch today, but oh well.
I've been yakking on this forum for awhile, but with all the new screens, I've finally shown something for all of it.

Excellent! Those new screens are pro style. I see what you mean how there is subtitles in battle now. I gotta admit at first I was worried this might become annoying as your FAQ stated but that style under the arte like that is nice and out of the way, looks great!
3 cheers on this project finally coming towards completion guys.

Thanks for the update.
Looks like a 2009 release is definitely possible
I'm also happy to see that a lot of work is being put into making this 100% console compatible. Keep up the good work everyone.

Hey, looking on the main page at the sword description, it reads:
Excalibur
Signifies the king of kings. Weapon of Gilgamesh, who left his name in the Legend of Ishtar.
Both of the statements are sentence fragments, and 'signifies the king of kings' is ambiguous.
http://owl.english.purdue...douts/grammar/g_frag.html
Does the sword make its bearer the king of kings, or was it held by a king of kings? The content doesn't seem to be correct either, as the 'legend' is the epic of Gilgamesh. One of the tablets mentions his encounter with the fertility goddess, Ishtar, but this isn't part of the main story. It's like saying 'Odysseus, who left his name in the Legend of Circe'. Gilgamesh is the main character. Most epics or holy books, including the Gilgamesh and the Odyssey, are about humans' encounter with gods, not the other way around.
Also, the description for Phoenix Dance reads:
Arcane: A combination of Rising Phoenix and Swallow Dance.
Why is the description prefaced by Arcane:? This can be compared, when describing a shoe, to something like:
Shoe
Worn out: an old walking shoe.
In this case, "This is an old, worn out, walking shoe" would be better. For Phoenix Dance, "This arcane arte combines Rising Phoenix and Swallow Dance" would be more correct, in English anyway.
Finally, what's the deal with 'arte'? Arte is Spanish for art or skill. Why Spanish? I don't remember this word in the snes translation.

It's prefaced with arcane but the following text is not a description of arcane or an elaboration. Arcane is the type of arte. Cless is using "arte" as opposed to "skill" to keep in line with the current "standard" of the namco localizations seen in Vesperia.

For the Gilgamesh bit, it's referring to
the series of games
, not the actual legend. So if the terminology seems off, blame Namco for making the games. Setting aside grammatical issues, there's no problem with the translation.
Arcane and Arte are both the localized terms that were used with other localized Tales games. The Arte names are frequently prefaced by Arcane or Base to indicate the level of the Arte. I imagine you'll see a lot of things in this game that will surprise you if you compare it to the SFC translation.

I still haven't received edits to the menu text yet, either.
But also, it's a reference to Tower of Druaga, not the epic of Gilgamesh.

We are following the official English localization standard.

Arte is Latin (thus romance languages), ablative of ars.

in very certain circumstances, a sentence being a fragment does not make it unacceptable. this is one of those circumstances.
please don't attempt doing it on your own, though, unless you have a good idea of when it would be acceptable and when it would not.

This is going to be so good translation..
Oh and about the Gilgamesh sentence I think it sounds good!
Like some medieval knight is saying:
"WEAPON OF GILGAMESH! PWNER OF N00BERTS!!! STEALER OF GIRLFRIENDS!!!" etc etc
can anyone else visualize that?

So how do you expect for the new patch to be released??, i know that you must feel exited to finish your translation that takes a pretty long time, you have so much courage to finish your mother project even if another same project has been released, i really admire you thats why i haven't played with the another patch and i will be very pleased to play with your work, haven't you consider that your patch will be better for the PSP full voice version??, i see no difference of the text displayed there but well it just my opinion...

Finally, what's the deal with 'arte'? Arte is Spanish for art or skill. Why
Why calling it... spanish? it's also a word with the same meaning in portuguese

Cless doesn't commit with such, it'll come when it's done.
Even more so now that the pressure is out of the door considering another translation is out, so Cless has the time to really make it stand out.

That's easy to answer... the two are not compatible, if there was a "make psp patch" button Cless would do it, there isn't. Files are packaged differently and he'd have to throw a lot of the reverse engineering he did on the PSone. Plus they're inserting it manually which is a lot of work and are making hacks when needed to... Doing it for PSP too would just double the amount of work. which, ultimately would just drag the release date further.
Not worth it.

I would rather legally dump my console PSX bios from my original PS1 onto my PC and play with emulator anyways. PSX emulation has nice filters that make the games looks better plus it runs it in progressive scan mode if you have it on your TV. I tried PSP with component cable to my HDTV with Star Ocean 2 port and it did not looks so great.
I'm glad this patch is for the PSX version game.
