Really awesome screens, looking forward to the battle subtitles, even though there's not too many of them in ToP...Tongue

Oh, and isn't Shinkuhazan translated as Void Tempest in Abyss and not Omega Tempest? Yeah, it was named that in the GBA localization, but eh, I always thought that was a mistake in the GBA localization.

Yeah, but I always thought that they mistook the name for Shinkuretsuzan...and yeah, both names are nothing special, but at least Void Tempest came from a game that's more recent and had better localization quality, and isn't the name of another move in the series...>_>;

Well, before I screw up, are there any _other_ updated names that I missed? I got Guardian Field and Center down, but wasn't made aware previously that there were others...

H'okay, I've looked over the fonts again, and I have to say something about this:
For someone who pays so much to consistency and details...
How could you not notice the inconsistency and flaws on the 8x8 font!? Tongue (No offense intended. As I'm sure that I've stated before, if I don't say anything about this, it'll bug me to no end.)
Here's some simple modifications I suggest.

There are two captial 'Z's in that image, as you can see; I found that these two designs work best while fitting in with the standard space for capital letters.

Second Z and lowercase J perhaps, but I'm not really feeling the others right now...

To be competely honest with you--And this is true honesty, not just my "Don't argue, it's only the Internet" motto at work--Those are the only ones I would absolutely want to change. The rest are all just personal nitpicks. I'm a bit of a font nut, you see. Tongue
Even if you don't decide to take any of my other font suggestions into account, I'll live so long as those two are changed.

Honestly, the 'M' should be changed. The original that's currently being used doesn't look connected enough. The revised one would really look good if you added one more pixel above the center two pixels (to connect that center stack to the two-pixel stacks on the left and right).

Besides that (and the recommended revisions to 'Z' and 'j'), I agree that the others are good as they are. The only other letter that I'd even give any thought to, would be 'N'. Neither version looks all that good, but I can't seem to figure out anything better within the restrictions given (and even widening it by one pixel just makes it look ugly).

Either way... I really don't care all that much. It's always nice to have people to point out the little things (helps to add that more professional and finished touch), but I'm also just really excited about how this is going to turn out. If the fonts were all left as is, I'd still be just as excited and happy with playing the translation.

The thing I don't like about the M suggestion is that it just makes it look a lot... bulkier or something. I'm fine with how it is, honestly.

This font was originally taken from DeJap's Bahamut Lagoon translation. Over the years I've made some edits to it to make it look more like a smaller, thinner variation of Chicago to make it go with the dialogue font. Serifs were added to the lowercase I and L to make them somewhat more readable on SDTVs (otherwise they kinda blurred together with other letters next to them, and especially when there were lowercase Is and Ls back-to-back, even with an S-Video connection). But things like Chicago's M simply don't scale well to the general aspect ratio of this font.

I don't subscribe to the "thinner is better" philosophy as far as fonts go. I'd use a wider font if I could, but the average width I'm using now for the 8x8 is the sweet spot for this game if I don't want to abbreviate the hell out of everything.

Well, if it was made to look like a thinner variation of Chicago, then the lowercase 't' should stay as-is and my lowercase 'f' should be used, in my opinion. As for the little bastards (Capitals 'M' and 'N'), here's a couple revisions (Again, with the space alotted, I found two capital 'N' styles for the job):

Though, I did like my revised capital 'N'...

I like that new 'M' too... and it still uses the same amount of pixels and dimensions, so it should avoid the bulky issue... Smiley

No matter what though, readability is top priority. Both look good scaled down at least, so either is cool... ^^

Wasn't the name omega tempest used in the "tales of the world: radiant mythology" localisation though?

Not that I recall. And even then, it's already a name of another move in the series, Shinkuhazan and Shinkuretuzan look nothing alike. >_>;
