Man, that certainly looks nice.
Just to have something cleared up for me. Are you going to have the translated skits released in a later version of the completed patch? I remember hearing something about the first completed translated patch would have everything translated except the skits and the completed patch with the translated skits would come later. I just wanted to get that part cleared up.

The progress of this project over the past few months is still mind blowing to me. I believe this was the last major hurtle correct?

Besides the songs (which I don't intend to ever bother with) the game will be 100% translated day one.

The prologue battle still needs work, too. After that, the hacking will be 100% barring any bugfixes.

Yeah, the font works fantastic for this as well. I found that it's still effortless to read even when overlaid on very light backgrounds, i.e. the desert sand and snowfield.

The skits look amazing, I can't believe how much progress you've made in the past few months, it's incredible. The game's looking so polished and an official translation probably wouldn't have half of the refinement that you've made to the game. I can't wait for this!

This isn't even the final form of this hack. So it will look even more aesthetically pleasing. As the demonstration script says, it needs centering. The hack in its final form will have each line centered to the middle of the screen, much like typical video subtitles.
We also have control of the vertical text coordinates, for use in those skits which have portraits appearing much lower on the screen.
There's one little problem with subtitle display timing, due to our method of "timing" them. It's a little off-sync. The subtitle usually appears before the character starts talking and sometimes disappears slightly late. The first subtitle always appears before the character's skit portraits do. It's a bit more jarring on real hardware as it takes extra time to seek the disc to the audio track. It's much more minor than I may be making it sound, but I've seen worse. BioShock subtitles still cut off in the middle of speaking even after two patches! We're going to see if there's anything that can be done, but aren't sure yet. If we can't fix it, I'm sure there will be some people out there who will appreciate that extra split second to read the text in most cases...

I don't see any real issue in that behaviour. Having subtitles being shown like that is way better than having them shown for such a short time people have troubles finishing reading them before they disappear again.

That alone isn't a big deal. I remember in the OVA sub we did I made sure there were NO lines timed to be shorter than 1 second, even those quick 1-worders. But typically they were timed to begin when a character started speaking.
The main problem here is the text popping up before the skit portraits load. It just looks a bit awkward. And it takes longer if playing from a disc. It's still not a big deal, but I would like it worked out if at all possible. If we can't without rewriting the entire skit engine, then oh well!

I forgot to congratulate Habilain, he is a major part of the subtitled skits hack, right?

Other than the above witty dialogue (mine was a 3 liner between Cless and Mint, and not very witty at all), this is my hack completely...
Currently trying to work out the best way of doing centred text here. It's a bit different to Cless's centred text routines, unfortunately...

Man that looks bad. Not the Skits, that looks great. I'm talking about Cless who looks 2D and small in that large, 3D world!!! What were the developers thinking??? lol nah I kid.

You should be really proud of this hack. I confess I was a little skeptical that this would get done. Seems like such a hard thing to do. Guess you showed me.
