I have peered over the two proofreader test samples that I received, and I have chosen Avarice for the position. He will soon start on the skit script first, then move on to the main script and everything else afterwards.

With the skit script essentially finished, and the main script practically there, I am confident that, if things go well with Avarice, all scripts will be 100% ready sometime this summer. If Habilain can finish up the refined hacks within that time, I am sure we'll even have this thing released at long, long last.

I would also like to take this time to thank naturesrevolt for his participation in this. It was clear he put a lot of effort into his submission.

Have fun with my horrible abuse of ellipses and my utter ignorance of the ways of the semi-colon!   Grin

Semi-colons are easy to use! You put them everywhere in college papers when you want to sound smart. And then you never use them again.

At least, that's how I understood them...

Semicolons are just misunderstood; they just want some (sparing) love like their more popular friends, the comma and the period.

Eh, I think it's fine for the most part.

Though you make me wonder if I should delay my intended completion date of the skits by tomorrow to look at your use of semi-colons and ellipses again. :p

I think it was her lack of semicolons that was the problem. I caught and fixed all the ones that leapt out at me...which I'm fairly confident is at least 99% of them. I became painfully aware and sensitive to comma splices after nusakan joined the team.

Mostly I was joking.  Although throughhim has provided an accurate picture of my understanding of the semi-colon.

And while the number of ellipses is rather large, that's all just part and parcel of the fact that it's a video game script.  I don't know another way to indicate a long pause or broken speech when there's not much voice acting.  I think the hardest part of this whole gig is trying to represent how the characters might actually talk, rather than what's technically proper English.

Clearly the answer to representing periods of silence would be to record lines for the whole entire game ourselves!

Okay I'm just kidding.  Grin
I think I'm doing a good job though at fixing actual errors as opposed to what is just a character's dialect, but we'll see how it turns out.

Related to this discussion, there are some places where I'm unsure if the semicolon or em dash is proper. I find differentiating the two in some contexts to be far more confusing than comma vs semicolon ever was. Tongue

There have been some slight delays, but I'm going to try and get the Skits in either by tonight or sometime in the morning. If I don't get it in by either of those times, it probably won't be turned in until Saturday as my family and I are going on vacation and I'm unsure if the hotels we're staying at on the way will have internet access.

I read through the whole Skit script twice too, but there are still a couple of parts I'm iffy on.
