I think it's more the other way around.

Essentially the project is held up because the proofreader has not returned anything but the skit script thus far.  Until this happens beta-testing can't happen, and until that happens, the release can't happen.

There is also the battle subtitles glitch. Habilain's far more capable of fixing that than I am.

The things holding back the release right now are out of my hands, so I'm caught up as far as I can go barring a couple minor things I don't care to work on until those roadblocks are out of the way. So it'll be better to get the other projects back on track until there is some movement.

Happy new year folks!

I've been lurking here for a good while now, visiting in short spurts over the past few years. When Cless released the demo, I got it immediately and was very impressed with the quality of the script. Knowing as well that there would be coop, a new battle difficulty, manual mode enabled from the start, among other hacks, I was really excited for this patch. I even went out and bought a copy of ToP on play-asia like 2 years ago thinking that the release was imminent.

However, as things stand, I'm continually confused about the actual status of this project. Currently there are apparently two things that need finishing, both of which are out of the project manager's hands (a statement which baffles me). How is this possible, Cless? Do you just not have any phone numbers for the people in your group? Are they always hard to get a hold of? I'm not trying to criticize, I really just want to know, as details on this matter are rather scarce.

The thing I'm extremely curious about however is this little thing:
Quote
-August 20: Avarice reported that he expects to turn in the script proofread within a few days.
You said this in August. If I remember correctly this was something like a month after Avarice got a hold of the script. So one would think that if he says " Just a few more days," there's really not a whole lot left that needs doing. And yet here we are, 4+ months later patiently waiting for the script. Is there even the slightest suspicion that something happened, or something is up? Maybe something came up and now it's been so long he forgot? This seems to me like a simple problem. Either you're being trolled (which I honestly doubt), or he forgot. I mean the least he could do is send you his unfinished work, that is if life is too crazy for him to even touch it right now.

Quote
That mainly just leaves the hacks, which Habilain reports he should be able to get back to on the 28th or so.
And I can't help but mention this. You had us thinking beta testing may actually happen in September. 4 months later, apparently no progress, and more importantly no details on why there was no progress. If there's one thing I would want to know, Cless, it's the nature of your communication with team members. Do you talk to them frequently? Do you have their phone numbers? Are they hard to get a hold of? Why is this project on hiatus when it's 99% complete???

I mostly hope it won't do like DeJap and that a verison 1.0 will eventually be released, but all the other projects will die off.

What I meant by those things being out of my hands, was that they are issues I need other people's assistance with. That comment is mainly a product of me finally finishing up all the work that had been piled up on my plate up until that point.

And yeah, I haven't gotten any news from Avarice or Habilain since those messages. However, I haven't made any effort to contact them either. Yeah, I know: worthy of unlimited facepalms. Maybe I'm too lenient, but I don't like being demanding of unpaid volunteers. Regardless, it's an unreasonable amount of time, though taking the other projects out of hiatus in the meantime may have had something to do with my prioritizing.

I just sent the belated nudges to Avarice and Habilain, though, so let's see what happens.

EDIT: Speedy response from Habilain:

Quote
Still yet to find a good week-and-a-half, I'm afraid. Some progress
though: I'm about 70% through the creating my own merged files, which
should resolve the subtitle issue.

Outlook: Not great for this month. Again, the issues stem from too
little time and too many projects. For the next month I've got a lot of
work (trying to submit a paper to a big conference), and add to that my
other projects... and yeah..

On the upside: I don't own Skyrim.

Anyhow, I'll try to get things going soon. There won't be any progress
for exactly 1 week I'm afraid, as I'm currently away from my main
computer, but after that I'll try and find some time to get the battle
subtitle fix done.

yeah, see stuff like that isn't demanding. Asking for updates and stuff is something everyone probably expects you to do. Anyway thanks for the prompt reply. Hopefully things will pan out a little more smoothly towards the end.

Just got a response from Avarice:

It's getting there. School ended up delaying me way more than I thought it would, but it's getting there.

A percentage from Avarice would be nice (like Habilain did) or a rough idea of how far into the script he is. A lot of free time has opened up for me, so I'm willing to work on this again if Avarice can't finish it up/needs help.

You could always, to make it easier on Avarice or whoever, divide the script up between everyone who applied for the position and have them proof read it in sections, then just give it a good look over for consistency's sake (nothing major, mostly skimming I would imagine). This way, if someone doesn't come through on time someone else could just pick up the remaining slack. I dunno, just a suggestion really. I'd just like to help out as much as I can right now.
