Apparently the battery life is going to be cut in half on the default battery. They Slim version is coming with a smaller battery that will only hold half the charge in order to fit the slim design. The standard battery from the original PSP can be used, but it will require a special battery cover that Sony will make available. Seems like a hassle.

I've heard the battery has a smaller capacity. I think the original PSP's battery was rated at 1800mAh but but new PSP's is 1200mAh. Something like that. But I think it's possible that the new ones could be more efficient, so it runs roughly as long as it the original PSP on the original battery.
On the other hand, I've also heard now that people are screwed out of playing games with the TV-out UNLESS you have a progressive scan capable display (HDTV, or EDTV). I do luckily, but not everyone does...

Yup, the battery of the slim runs just as long as the original one because it draws less power
You can also put the 1800mAH into a slim psp
I'm still waiting for official more powerful batteries though
Apparently the PSP can output a progressive signal up to 640x480 with component cables, that's crazy
Bah... The features of this new slimmer console make me want to buy it
Image playing Crisis Core (or any other game you look forward to^^) on your Plasma HD Display :-)
I bet that was exactly what Sony/Squeenix had in mind to make people buy consoles ...

I was about to post information on this.
The slimline PSP DOES use less power giving it just an hour less of runtime than the larger original modle, and you CAN use the old PSP`s batteries in it, BUT its larger than the new modle ones and you would need to be able to stand it sticking out about half a CM of the case (comes with an extra batterycover for this, but it still sticks out)
And in reguards with your commentry about the videoout cless....
Its all standard gold plated highdef cables for a 1080i, But you CAN use a HD conversion box to change it from 5 prong (left audio, right audio, red color, green color, blue color) to the average 3 prong for standard televisions (left audio, right audio, and video)
im sure that an optional 3 connector for standard TV`s will be released in the near future or the standard videoout released will be changed, But if not, you can convert this, so dont worry people.
@everyone else who contributed info here~
Good, thanks for adding to the topic and keep it up, alot of people need to hear this information so they know what their gunna need in the near future.
Big Warning To PSP owners:
If ANY of you have EVER had second doubts about your PSP`s usefulness to you and thought about selling it, Now is the time to sell it, because when the new PSP slim is released and well known, The old PSP`s will be hocked on eBay for around 40-50$ average. If you ever wanted to sell a psp, NOW Is Your LAST chance!

That's just not true. Considering that most of these new PSPs are probably going to be shipping with 3.51 firmware, there will still be a market for PSPs with lower firmware numbers for people interested in homebrew. So I can't help but disagree with your assessment of the future price drops. The price will go down over time, but I don't think it's going to be that rapid. And I don't see the the Slim as being an upgrade worth selling your original PSP over. All of this is just opinion of course, and I certainly don't intend to tout my opinions as fact.

PSP Slim will be shipped with 3.60 no?
Because 3.51 has already been hacked and modified firmware exist so I don't think it would be a good idea to release the slim psp with a firmware that can be exploited (from Sony's point of view -.- )

Doesn't seem like it's undercover anymore, but anyway that TV thing looks like it could be good for video capture. Finally a way to share gameplay videos and capture game FMVs directly from the system.

You might be right. I haven't really been keeping up with the most recent firmware. Ever since Dark-Alex left the PSP hacking scene, I stopped keeping up to date on what the most recent firmware version was. I didn't realize that 3.51 had already been hacked and outdated.

Did you forget what happened to the DS?
Not sure on the specific prices, so dont go off flipping about them, but lets put it this way.
DS in 2006 sept = 120$
DS lite announced 2006 aug, DS lowers to 110$
DS lite released around sept / nov in aug, DS price lowers to under 100$, still dropping everyday.
PSP = selling for 150-200$ around dec 06.
PSP2 announced and informed around jan / feb 07, prices drop to around 120$
PSP2 spec`s released and just now made commonly known, with pics and price, PSP original price is now less than 100$, Averageing in sales between 70$ and 85$
As soon as the PSP2 (PSPslim) is released, Im VERY sure that its going to be dropping down to even bran new PSP`s at the 60-90$ area. and for used, staying at 60-70.
Just check the numbers...
But anyways, I dont know..I personally wouldnt sella PSP since no matter what its stick on a low-price under 100$.
But for those intrested in makeing some money, pickup a used PSP for 90 on eBay and clean it up / buy a new case or psp vynal skin for about 20$ and sell it all together for about 150$, Iv done it at least 2 times now.

I like my PSP - but nowhere near enough to warrant the upgrade, for me, the only thing I'd want to see is them fix the D-pad.
As for prices, I'm sure the higher firmware (and with inevitable update versions) will be cracked soon enough, so the PSP's will drop I'm sure - then again, I wonder how much of a market there is for this? The DS Lite was good because the original DS was an unappealing brick of a system ad around that time there was an impressive influx of broad-appeal games.

I have a psp slim and I like it. I haven;t noticed a difference in the battery life it seems to be the same to me/. I dont really mind the fact that you cant downgrade the psp its completely fine to me.
