Translating tips

Hi, I started viewing this board about one year ago hoping to see a TOD2 patch. Since i believe Cless translation will be awesome i don't mind waiting. But I've started thinking about doing a TOD DC menu translation. But even if I'm a programmer I'm no hacker and I'm stuck with the big files, and i don't know witch tools to used to get started. I would appreciated help, i could also help on TOD2 to sharpen my skills.

EDIT: I recommend contacting Cless directly though; regarding Tales games Phantasian Productions actually reversed engineered and has quite the "proprietary" tools for it, so that might be part of the reason you can't deal with those files (as they're very specific?)
