Tower of Druaga anime?!

I think I'll have to lift my anime ban to check this out.. if only to appease my inner Namco geek.

GDH, the parent company of anime production studio GONZO, has announced plans to produce an anime series based on Namco's hit game "The Tower of Druaga". They also plan to produce an online game based on the same property. The anime is scheduled to air sometime in 2008, while the online game will start service sometime in the latter half of next year.

The Tower of Druaga originally debuted as an arcade game in 1984 to much fanfare. The game was a pioneer in the genre of adventure games in which a main character collects items to power up and progress through the game's storyline. The game was a huge hit when it was ported to the original Nintendo console.

What's it gonna be?  Gil climbing the tower, and fighting stuff every episode?  Sounds fun.

Eh, it'll probably be lame.. where spells or attacks that would kill bad guys simply black-face other characters for comic relief when convenient; it'll probably be "silly hijinks" until the last three episodes when they'll suddenly expect you to take the characters "seriously" as they shoehorn in an ending; the cast will be a moron hero who just happens to be brave enough to stick through it to the end, a coolly collection friend/rival, a tomboy and a shy girl who both have a thing for the main character and let's not forget the cute animal sidekick! Oh boy I can't wait for it!

Maybe they can throw in other Namco characters for the hell of it.  It's not like the original game had a plot anyway.
