Touhou Project

So, i have been getting more and more interested in Touhou Project lately, and i think i want to try playing some of the games. but, i don't know if i should start with the very first, or just skip to the middle. any ideas?

Start with any game you like really. Personally I started with Imperishable Night and moved on from there. None of the games are particularly linked together barring the three more recent ones (UFO, MoF and SA).

Imperishable Night is a nice one to start off with. Mechanics aren't too complex and Normal mode is somewhat normal (in other words it won't violently rip your lives from you before the first boss) especially with the addition of the Boss marker.

I also recommend the Embodiment of Scarlet Demon for the music and introducing some of my favourite characters.

Each of the games are somewhat stand-alone since ZUN doesn't take too much effort in the story line. In actuality, the whole frenzied fan circle is responsible for the vast majority of the characterisations except the (9) = idiot = Cirno thing which is completely ZUN's fault.

I know I'm gonna sound like an absolute moron but...what's Touhou? I only heard the name.

A series of doujin shmups, known for their music and bullet hell gameplay that can have literally bullets all over the screen, which the game expects you to dodge. Also known for being made by a single person.
