The great (not so) forum crash of 2006

EDIT: Managed to get the old forum working. If you need to look back at it for whatever reason check it out
here
.
------------------------------------------------------------
It begins. Again.
Sorry to do this to you all again but it's beyond my control.
Anyone who tried visiting the site sometime within the last 24 hours might have found the page either redirecting to the webhost's front page or simply not going anywhere.
After the website problem was resolved our forum still had problems. I reinstalled phpBB but it would only give me errors when trying to restore the database. In fact, as a test, I created database backups of the newly installed, and tried to restore from. Even those refused to work. I have no freaking clue what happened to the database restorability of that forum, but whatever.
After a few hours of messing with it and getting pissed off, we're back to square one on a different forum software, SMF. I hope the community regenerates itself.
My first choice alternative would've been a vBulletin forum, but that isn't free and costs a ridiculous sum of money.

I'm happy to see things back, and since the old forums had been a little quiet these last few days, this is a good chance to get more active again. Hopefully.
I love the fact that we can change our display names if necessary, too. :D
[Edit] Whoa, new lower avatar size limit. I better fix mine a bit later.
[Edit2] Yay, it's fixed now. XD 50x50 was waaay too small for most cases. @_@

Activity is good, and this forum reset might indeed generate some. Anyway, I for one like SMF's layout; I think this should be a good thing.

Although it is a shame that the forum crashed, the switch to SMF from phpBB is a bit refreshing...

Yes it is refreshing and the text is big enough not to be an eyestrain to read...

Oh dear... I just realized with this crash I lost my list of things games and anime I wanted to get around to watching...
Eh... Please Cless, if possible... if there's any way to access post content from the backups, please retrieve my lists... It's not a big deal if you can't, it's just inconvenient for me...
Anyway it's a painful blow to lose all our old posts, but the transition to this new board shouldn't be so bad.

I will lament the loss of the "Big Smiles" thread ;_;
I do hope to get a little more active on this forum from now on. Unfortunately, I feel as if I have precious little spare time of late, thanks to my new job - plus we can't access the net at work. Boo!

Well. I have a 41MB SQL file backup which was made just before attempting the reinstall(s) of phpBB. Has nearly 400000 lines of text in it. I'm not really willing to go through it line-by-line but if you can remember a line of text written it wouldn't be difficult to search it out.

More like the 5th. But few if any of the current day regulars were around during the ezboard and UltraBoard (lived for only about a week before dying) days...

I remember a couple of lines. Try searching for these:
Bout of insaneness
Shame they never made a Tales game for Dreamcast
Suikoden II (US)
Samurai Champloo (J)
Melty Blood ReAct Final Tuned v2.501b (J)
Yokushin Gigawing Generations (E)
Those are for my game list. For my anime list, search for these:
Midori no Hibi
Tenchi Muyo
School Rumble
Full Metal Alchemist
I don't remember my exact punctuation for those quotes, but those are things I'm sure that are unique to my lists... Thank you so much if you can retrieve the lists.

I don't know how complete this is but extra garbage was also inserted.

k, bout of insaneness over...
Just want to know what people are playing now. I also want to use this as an excuse to track what I\'m playing as well... I\'ll edit when I add stuff and remove stuff to my list...
