Many have been saying that E3 is going to end up getting canceled.  Somehow, it's hard for me to make out.

One source is saying that E3 is downsizing:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6154897.html

However, another source is saying that E3 is no more:
http://next-gen.biz/index...&id=3538&Itemid=2

Maybe I might need to wait a bit with more sources before I jump to conclusions.

Either way, it still sounds bad for E3.  It was one of the things that gets me all excited and we may end up seeing it cancel indefinately.

It's very unlikely E3 will be cancelled. It's a big part of the industry and small time companies rely on it for publicity. The worst I can see happening is that it gets downsized. I cannot fathom it getting cancelled. The ESA makes its announcement tomorrow and that's when we'll get our answer.

Downsizing sounds a little more realistic so they might do that. But geeze, why get rid of or wreck such a major event?

Oh BTW, here's another article to refer to:

I figured that downsizing would be what the ESA would be doing for E3.  It's more realistic and besides, E3 is so much of a big deal for the gaming industry.  I even questioned Next Gen's article on the fate of E3.  I already seen people going, "No!  E3 is cancel!", even though Gamespot's news story is saying otherwise.  But yeah, I expect that tomorrow they're more likely to say they're downsizing E3, which is what the worst that could happen.

If, for some strange forsaken reason, they DO cancel E3, then I forsee fire in the future.

It would be heresy to cancel E3, it's too important to the gaming industry to be removed.

Downsizing is certainly an understandable move, I just hope that it's not going to take away too much from the potential of future shows. It's hard enough getting publicity for good games that aren't part of the mainstream popularity in English-speaking areas.

I don't think you have to worry about it being canceled... unless the game industry finds an easier way to make up for the publicity.

--Tom Sloper

Even if the E3 does end up gone for good, I don't believe there's anything prohibiting the creation of a new convention (or the evolution of an existing convention) to fill the demand.

I guess downsizing has the potential to be bad for non-mainstream games though.

--Tales of Vesperia's plot will involve space aliens in some way

Eh, this isn't that big of a deal. It's just a trade show and it's become something of a circus in the last few years, so maybe it's better if it's put to rest. The smaller companies are largely ignore by all media outlets and the "big three" could hold their own events for major announcements based on the money they spend just trying to outdo each other at E3.

This could also result in less crappy games from the low-men.

I mean, it's great that we get so much variety for things like our PS2s and such.. but most of the games played aren't very good at all. Perhaps this will make those publishers view things at a little more of a gameplay standard, and we won't see So many of the same freaken game in the bargain bin for $4.99 at EB Games.

How exactly will the existence of E3 change this?

That's rather disheartening seeing as I'll be old enough to go to the next E3. I can't imagine they'd end it completely, although I think even a downsize could turn out badly as well.

I.. don't know!  Cheesy

Perhaps with the huge downsize of the event, smaller businesses won't be able to promote said games, thus getting lack of support for development, and less low-quality games in the long run!

Hey, it could happen! (McWorld~!)

You do know that they're downsizing the event because companies like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Square-Enix and Electronic Arts have turned the show into a circus, right? Smaller companies will actually benefit from the smaller show, which is a great decision in my opinion. And again, it's a trade show, companies are there to announce and show off new and upcoming products to the press, not to gain development support.
