I heard about this.  Honestly, this is getting to be just a big game of 'What will they say next?'  How Sony managed to get themselves in this hole is anyone's guess.  But I think we can all agree that it took a lot of hard work and stupidity to go from dominant market leader to internet whipping boy.

I loved the horribly hilarious music videos they produced...

I loved the subtitles on the death metal one.  That one cracked me up.  The rap one made me want to cry.  Did they really expect people to think that guy was a 'kid' wishing for a PSP?  He was like 40.  Those were certainly great for a laugh.

On the forum I do most of my time-wasting at work, there was this guy who posted about Sony in such a blind fashion that I swore the dude was on their payroll. He'd go on and on and on about technical specifications of PS2/PSP hardware, his posts often read like press releases and the dude NEVER talked about, you know, games. He was finally ran off from the video game forum and then spread his viral nonsense in our High Def forum blindly nutting over anything and everything Blu-Ray until he was finally banned for starting too much flame wars, etc. Anyway, this whole PSP site has made me think my theory on him being a Sony plant were probably true.

I'd kill for a mirror of the original site, lol
I wonder, if Sony deliberatly set out to lose its creditbility, could they do better? I'm almost sick of hearing these stories, but they won't let it rest. Time to ditch this pig. Meh.

I managed to peep it before they closed up shop, it was HORRIBLE. Actually, it was worse than that.. it was just flat out insulting. It was written in faux-MySpace speak, lots of crap like lol, pwn, ftw, etc. It's sad that that's the bottom-feeding audience Sony expected to hit with the campaign, in my opinion. Oh yeah, amidst all of the retard-speak they still used "corporate" terms like Sony PSP Entertainment Pack (which was the only thing capitalized on the site) with a note next to that which read: "what my friendz call it lolz!"

Proof that they DO infact think of their target audience as utter morons. The action of pretending to be a fansite itself doesn't bother me as much as being viewed as such a mindless imbicile.

is it really that big a deal? i assumed that they're NOT thinking you're morons and that they assume you'd immediately be able to figure out that it's a fake fansite. i just don't see why they're getting so much flak about it.

If it they meant for people to know it was fake, why did they take the site down when they were found out? And they're getting so much flak about it because it's deceptive marketing.. people generally don't like being lied to and deceived.

That's Google's cache of it. One of the news sites also saves all the page files and mirrored it in case this happened to it.
