looks like Sonic and the Secret Rings+2.5D sections
Now... here's hoping for a Wii version, and one that it's not inferior at that.

After the last one, I'm going to keep my expectations very, very low. Some of the screens that have been uploaded look very nice, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

It looks nice but then again, I disgraced my Xbox 360 already with that awful Sonic game. So, I'm not really expecting this to be good.

this one seems like a sequel to secret rings... it's alright to expect something good, I think (I don't want to put my hands on fire for it)
I just hope they don't tone down the gameplay on the Wii compared to Secret Rings now that it is multiplatform, I mean, the game was so ritmic it felt good; that alone would keep the wii version being the better one for me.

Don't worry, I didn't buy it. You might want to go after my friend, though. He's the one who bought it because he's a Sonic fanboy. I merely borrowed it from him (still am but I keep it out of sight until he actually decides to take it back).
I probably played it because I like torturing myself (exaggeration but I just do this as a look on exercising my critiquing).
Besides, I'm not much of a Sonic fan so I had no reason to buy it myself (and even I find it sad how Sonic has fallen from his former glory).

i know what you mean, the new 3d graphics mean nothing because they the game plays itself now. in the 2d days you had to have strategy. now all you do is hold foward and jump occasionally.

Some of the most fun moments in the 2D games were being able to run at high speed for a long stretch just holding right most of the time. The biggest complaint for the 3D games I hear other than camera angles are the lack of sense of speed. I do however remember a few times in the 2D games where you could run so fast that the camera couldn't keep up. I guess people want that feeling again? I jokingly say that the bad 3D camera is a twisted way to bring back that feeling. I know it doesn't make sense, don't worry about it. Other than the Sonic and the Secret Rings camera angle parts, this game looks promising if they can up the speed even more.

Former Sonic fanboys/girls litter the highways and biways of gaming these days. I myself gave up after Sonic Heroes.

Quote
LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (April 3, 2008) – SEGA® of America and SEGA of Europe Ltd., today announced that everyone’s favourite hedgehog will be breaking new ground yet maintaining his roots, in the upcoming title, Sonic Unleashed™. Developed by renowned studio Sonic Team, the latest installment in the multi-million selling franchise, will take players on an unforgettable high-speed journey around the globe in a way never before experienced in the world of Sonic. The game is set for release later this year and
will be available for the Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo and PLAYSTATION®2.
Sonic Unleashed is built on a
powerful new “Hedgehog Engine”, which introduces seamless 3D to classic 2D camera transitions, whilst delivering a rich and expansive world with multiple paths to choose from. Under development for three years, the Hedgehog Engine produces a visually rich next generation look and feel with elements of classic Sonic gameplay mechanics
. The Hedgehog engine will help re-define the gameplay experience for Sonic fans and newcomers to the franchise alike.
“By combining rich and vibrant scenery with dynamic viewpoints Sonic Unleashed will provide an immersive 3D experience whilst keeping alive the 2D gameplay elements and fantastic worlds that Sonic fans know and love” commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director for SEGA Europe. “In addition to this classic Sonic gaming experience, when darkness sets in Sonic Unleashed players will be able to experience a completely new way to play as Sonic… making this his most exciting adventure yet!”
Having been broken apart by the evil Dr Eggman, it’s down to Sonic to put the pieces of the world back together again by retrieving the power of the chaos emeralds. In doing so, Sonic will find himself in a race against time and faced with an unusual situation that will challenge him in ways never before seen. By completing a wide variety of action-packed stages, spanning the seven broken continents of the world, gamers will need to unleash Sonic’s amazing abilities to save the world, and himself!
The opportunity to engage in Sonic in different ways during the day and night time levels brings a completely original way of playing to the Sonic franchise, in addition to running at high speeds in classic Sonic style, combat fighting will become possible. Super quick Sonic’s speed skills will be highlighted by four new modes, whilst the all new combat, movement and functional abilities will offer depth and variety to the game. As the sun sets in Sonic Unleashed, a different type of adventure will awaken in Sonic’s newest quest….

More than likely. I can't really think of a Wii game that was wildly different from its concurrently developed PS2 counterpart. It makes sense from a design perspective, you want to minimize production time so you just port instead of building from the ground up for each system. Not specifically targeted at you, but I don't really like seeing people complaining about ports if they themselves wouldn't be willing to work in the industry themselves and make a new build for a game for each individual console from the ground up. It just takes too long.

No it doesn't: Wii is not a PS2, not even close. It's a insult for them to do it sistematically; they're taking us for granted and basing themselves on the third party scenario (crappy looking games) just so the standards are not high and so "they can get away with it". But... they shouldn't; the console does such more and truth to be told, it doesn't have the muscle the HD ones have, but that's just one extra reason to push it, not pulling this crap on us, PS2 at 60 frames on the Wii is not even 1/4 of what the console can pull.
PS2 is not admissible, be it in textures (PS2 is very underpowered in that area), be it polycounts/geometry... be it in lightning... pretty much everything really; and this has to end already; it's a long running joke of taking us wii owners for fools.
If we were gonna go that way, the HD consoles should get a port of the PS2 version, but they don't because it's not admissible, sure Wii is still SD, but it's a insult nonetheless, the platform can do so much better and should.
Then they complain on how their crappy half assed games don't sell.

Like you're saying, the Wii is its own console. It's in a special category because it has chosen not to go the route of HD and high-powered processing, but at same time it tries to improve upon the last generation. For this reason, it's all by itself. Since the Wii is not with the majority, it's a special case. Two out of three current gen consoles are HD capable, therefore they have ports that are highly similar. The Wii cannot partake in this exchange, therefore in order to cut down on production, they have to find the next best thing.
Since the Wii is not HD capable, it can't get a port of a 360/PS3 without having very very severe cutbacks. Since it is not in a production team's best interest to make a watered down version of a game for just one special case, that is why they build it around both the PS2 and the Wii. So you may ask why even bother making a PS2 version at all. They know a Wii version may sell a reasonable amount since there are so many Wii owners out there. However by that logic and if a game is multi-platform to begin with, it makes sense to have a PS2 version since there is a large pre-installed base of PS2 owners that probably can't afford a PS3 or another next gen console.
While it is perceived to be unfair that they would not take advantage of the Wii's capability, it's a matter of time and money. It costs more time to build a new version just for a special case. It takes money to pay people to make these new versions. In order to make it worth their while, a version is concurrently made for both PS2 and Wii. Not every company has this amount of time and money to invest in catering to each console and making special versions optimized for each console. They want to make their game and try to get it out to as many people as possible. I find it highly unreasonable to expect all third parties who make multi-console games to make a special Wii-optimized version for EACH AND EVERY multi-platform title they release. It is too much resources on a risk. It doesn't help that in this case (a Sonic game), people at this point are not confident in the franchise to begin with. If people aren't going to buy it, why bother? To counteract this, they make a PS2 version and cushion the blow from people not buying and hopefully have some of the PS2 owner base buy it as well.
You've made it very clear in the past that you feel, as a Wii owner, that you are being short-sticked. I very much understand that it's upsetting that devs aren't taking more advantage of the capability the Wii has over the last generation. I am not saying that I support that devs are doing this. I am saying that with the situation at hand, it is unreasonable for them to do what you are asking given the circumstances. I cannot stress enough that these things cost time and money and it's economically risky to exclusively develop a Wii version for everything unless it's guaranteed to sell. If a game was made exclusive to the Wii, you'll see a lot more effort in taking advantage of its capabilities. Multi-platform games are about finding a happy medium between consoles in order to give owners of different consoles the relatively same experience. It's not about making a special version for each to prove the superiority of one console's capabilities over another.
In a perfect world where time and money is not a problem, you'd be seeing a lot more of what you're asking. We unfortunately have to concern ourselves with time and money therefore you get what you see and take what you can get.

couldn't they just... make a version that runs at a lower resolution with lower texture quality, or something? perhaps less complex effects and geometry? the PS2 and Wii are pretty far apart in their graphical capability, aren't they? it doesn't seem to make sense to make the Wii version a PS2 port, then.
