Just got the demo for this game, and it feels a lot like a tales or star ocean in the sense that the battle system allows for free character movement. It's made by Level-5, the creators of the Dark Cloud series. Interestingly it was intended to be the third installment of the Dark Cloud series. The game is scheduled to be released later this month.

Also, I hear the US version of this game will be more "complete" than the JP version. I'm curious to see what things they added.

It will be based on the Director's Cut version which will be released in Japan in March 21st this year.

Some have said this is the "poor man's Final Fantasy XII".

But I'm going to check it out at some point because the setting in this game is woefully underused in the RPG genre...

Well I pre-ordered it because I've liked Level 5 games so far.  Haven't gotten around to the demo though.

My thinking is the same as supersonic, I've really enjoyed almost everything Level 5 has done.  Plus, Nishura Tomohito's music in Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicle was amazing.  I've been wanting to hear more from him since I first played Dark Chronicle.  I'm planning on picking this game up, hopefully it'll be good, but I'm not too worried about that.

Yes, it is a 3D Action RPG. I don't see how someone can call it a "Poor man's FFXII" as they are completely different games.

Rogue Galaxy is a great game, Cartoonish art style graphic is not what I like the most but  they're beautifully crafted so it's a big +. The free movement in battle it's always something good. If you like to have a lot of weapon and also like the customization , it's the perfect game for you. In the game, they're soo many weapon you can make. Much more than Dark Cloud (1 and 2) had. Like Dark Cloud, you have a sword and a gun weapon and the battle system is more the same. No healing spell, so you have to think a little more in battle than just hit, hit, hit. For me, It's the best game of the year at this moment (just two month have pass so...).

BEAUTIFUL cel-shaded graphics + action RPG = another purchase for Leroy.

My friend is raving about this as well.. but I've promised to keep myself off any long RPGs for a little bit (and this time I'm sticking to it!). I've got a few games I want to play first; I'm still working on (AND LOVING) Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, I bought the Devil May Cry 5th Anniversary set, plus I still really want to play Ape Escapé 3 and a whole slew of Gamecube titles I posted about in the $10 thread.

I actually just beat the game today. ^_^  I never really got tired of it, but I stopped to play Grandia 3 because I promised I'd finish it before Rogue Galaxy. :/ I think I like RG more than FFXII,  but both are solid games. Both games were great graphically, were fun to play, and had decent music (although I liked Rogue Galaxy's soundtrack  more). At first I thought FFXII's story kicked the crap out of RG, but after beating both of them I like RGs a tiny bit more. Vaan and Penelo just don't really seem  important to the story. I didn't feel anything when I bit FFXII but RG made me feel sad that it was over and sort of disappointed at the ending (but then, I'm a sucker for most stories anyway). Just my thoughts, anyway. I did like Customization quite a bit, but regarding the no healing spells thing, you can carry 50 healing potions and use them at ANY time including when you're being hit, knocked down, dazed, etc.
