Hello everyone with it being my 1st post'n all Smiley
I'm here to seek some help or guidance for a group I accidently stumbled across who are willing to translate Berserk for PS2!.... if I can find the necessary help that is  Sad

To cut the story short I was playing on Namco X Capcom and wanted to find some translated faqs online. But ended up coming across TRANSGEN (http://transgen.890m.com/) instead who have been working on translating the game into English and have done a brilliant job so far even though it's in beta stage.
So I put in an early request for Berserk to be worked on and finally got a positive response for such a project to take off, due to the amount of interest people have taken in the game.
However Berserk has been looked at before at Transgen and there have been problems that have prevented a Berserk translation project to start. This is where the whole 'reverse engineering' help is going to be needed.

From what I've gathered Berserk PS2 uses an encryption/compression that is usually only used on CD games not DVDs. This kind of encryption/compression I believe may be that used in Tales of Phantasia   Shocked
IF that really is the case the key to being able to translate Berserk and knowing how to might lay with you guys  Wink
Is there anyone who could give Transgen a help in hand? I noticed there are ongoing projects here as well and you guys must be busy so I can fully understand if you can't at all. But even a few odd hints and tips might help the admin over at Transgen suss things out or have something to work from.
Here's a request thread I made at Transgen:
http://transgen.890m.com/forums/index.php?topic=119.0
You'll find the main admin Saito talking about the problems on the 2nd page.

LoL I’m not even sure if asking for all this outa nowhere is a good thing I hope I don't get my ass flamed from both ends haha. Well the admin there did hint to go out and find someone so that's what I'm doing... he just doesn't know where I've been haaa Smiley

I guess I started this whole request thing so I have to try and clean it up and come to some result.... hopefully with a Berserk translation in lift off! Cheesy

It's been 4 years of waiting... this game will never hit the West parts of the world I really hope this can end and finally make a lot of Berserk fans happy  Smiley

I'll stop yapping away now............... actually speaking of yapping (*oh god here he goes again!! Tongue*) I did make this post on a reverse engineering site in the Console ReEngineering section:
http://www.reteam.org/board/showthread.php?t=1112
I posted there before I found this place. I may get help there but I'm more likely to get the relevant information for Transgen here I’m hoping.

Thank you all for your time I really appreciate any help that is given. Please speak to Saito on the forums at Transgen if anyone can spare some time to give any advice on his problems with translating Berserk.... and I’m sure he'll kick my ass when he finds out I’ve been to another game translating group asking for help LOL. No but really I'm sure he'll be very happy for any help given.

Arigato!!! Many thanks!!!!!! Smiley

Good luck, it's not that no one here would be willing to help, but we're a small community and most (like me) don't really understand even the basics for it, so it's kinda out of our league, and the ones who do understand, have loads of work I guess.

Thanks.
I'm here no different to any other Berserk fan wanting a translation, and part of no translation group of the sort.
Trangen just so happens to be nice enough to offer a very high chance of a translation if the right help is provided. So I've been out and around the net trying to give them what they want. It's the least I can do for them if they will translate as I'm sure it's no straight forward task.

Apologies for storming on in here and posting all that for my 1st post, it was OTT Tongue I just hope I wasn't being pushy or anything but had to ask.

I can fully understand groups that are too busy with projects of their own who know all the answers. It's not like they are paid to give up a lot of their time to help out others.
But I appreciate the help given, that link is very useful imo. I'll leave that with the admin and see if he wants to make any use of it (I can't see why he shouldn't).
As for myself I guess I'm going to leave everything as it is and see what happens. In the worst case can't say I didn't try.  Smiley
Thanks again.

wow, I wish I knew about this sooner.

I mean, I've beaten Berserk: Chapter of the Millenium Falcon (or as I like to call it "spam square to win") twice, but it'd be nice to play in english.

That encryption WOULD explain why it required the Swap Magic 3, despite every other PS2 game made at the time (and most still made) only needed Swap Magic 2.

Berserk is a damn short game too, and a lot of stuff is already in english, so it wouldn't take long to translated.
