I think at this point, ultra-cheesy dialogue is a staple of the Resident Evil series.

"I'm not a part of your crappy script"

My friend thinks "You're small time, Saddler!" was particularly ridiculous.

Well, this is my introduction to RE, so I was not yet desensitized to it. I guess this is where the "horror" part of the survival horror designation comes from.

"I'm not a part of your crappy script" That line pretty much sums it all up. I literally laughed out loud at the irony.

Anyway, thanks again.
I think I'll try to finally stop spamming this thread now.

If you have the patience, I strongly suggest you hold off on both until you get the Wii because the Wii Edition is $29.99 MSRP.

If you absolutely must get it now, then I actually recommend the PS2 version not just because you get the extras the GCN version doesn't have, but also so you can be totally amazed at the graphics of the Wii version once you get it. The Wii Edition's graphics is about the same as the GCN version so you won't be as amazed if you've played that one.

Here's a comparison video. To be able to see a difference on youtube quality video really shows the gap between the PS2 and the GCN.

The video alternates between GCN and PS2 video, starting with GCN.

The downside to the PS2 other than the graphics is the loading times. If you absolutely can't stand the PS2's 10 second loading times, then get the GCN version. Still, I suggest you hold off on both to save money.

I say GameCube because:

The main quest in the PS2 is apparently gimped with fewer enemies, but with higher health to compensate

I think the GameCube controller is better suited to the game. The stick is tighter and helps for better precision aiming.

RE4 is a moody game and better graphics actually enhance it. There is nothing added to the main game in the PS2 version, except for unlocking an incredibly useless gun for beating Pro mode. (which incidentally, became the ultimate awesome in the Wii version)

Exactly my point in getting the PS2 version. If he sees the PS2 version first then plays the Wii version, the atmosphere will feel totally better making it even more worth it to play through again. But if you really want to emphasize first impressions, then go ahead and get the GCN version. Still, why even bother getting the GCN version for the atmosphere if (assuming) majin is just going to get the Wii version in a few weeks.

I have the PS2 version and I own a Wii, but being the cheap guy that I am, I am not going to buy a Wii port of a game that I already own on another system. It is a good game, though. I would give it an 8 out of 10.

You should seriously consider getting the Wii version. It's more than a mere port. The advantage in graphics the Wii/GCN version has over PS2 is astounding. The lighting is definitely something that took a hit when it was ported to PS2 and you'll be amazed at this one fact throughout the whole game if you replay it on Wii. Not only that but the controls reinvent the game. Granted it makes the game feel somewhat easier than the other versions once you get the hang of the controls, it's just a lot of fun.

I have the PS2 version myself and I wholeheartedly intend to buy the Wii version once I get a Wii. I love the game that much and I feel the Wii version warrants getting it all over again.
