Resident Evil 4 (now on Wii!)

Anyone else play this? I got it a month ago (GameCube version) and am having a hard time putting it down, and am on my 6th playthrough (haven't finished my 4th playthrough though..). There was always a lot of talk about the game, and after I saw a video of the infamous knife fight I finally caved into the hype.
And man, what a game. This game is friggin' awesome, and up there with the Metroid Primes as favorite GC games. I've finished Assignment Ada, but have yet to play Mercenaries and still feeling a bit too chicken to try Professional difficulty.
Having never played a survival horror game I found the game pretty creepy the first time through. It kept me on edge the whole time through. Now that I've seen all the surprises I can relax easier and play better and faster.
Those damn Regenerators were the creepiest part of the game, really. The first time through I was playing really stupidly... I was stuck with the bolt action rifle. That thing's way too slow against them. Ugh. Even being a novice with the semi-auto rifle those bastards still gave me tons of trouble. Especially the spiky ones (screw killing those the proper way though, I just go all out on them with my magnum, they die in 8 shots with the Broken Butterfly at 24 firepower).
I hope the Wii RE game follows in the footsteps of RE4. I tried playing the PS1 RE games a couple days ago but they've not aged well to the point where I just can't stand to play them.

I can't picture you plaing RE4 either >_>;
I haven't got the game myself though but if its addicting enough to put down work on the translation projects, I might just consider getting them myself.

Had the Gamecube version of the game since my 19 birthday (felt nice that the release date conveniently was in January 2005). 3 playthroughs of it and I honestly think it rightfully earned the the title of "Game of the Year" for 2005 (though I have to admit, God of War was a tough contender for the title too).
I just loved how it made survival horror fun again. Quite frankly, playing Resident Evil Zero about 3 years back, just got me to feel so tired of the series. So it was great they went the direction they did. A more action oriented direction. I didn't really have to worry about knowing when to fight or when to run. As long as I know what weapons to use at the right time and how to use it, I would be okay.
This game also freaked me out. The two things that freaked me out were the cult followers and their chanting and Dr. Salvador and whatever you call the hags with the chainsaw. The cult followers' chant were just creepy. As for Dr. Salvador, the fact that they can kill Leon effortlessly (and in a very gruesome way no doubt) and they appear so early that every time I hear a chainsaw go off, I end up panicing.
During my first playthrough, I was thinking I wouldn't play it again after beating it. Boy was I wrong. What I loved about replaying it again is that I saved so much ammo and mixed herbs that I can just blast those ganados like they were nothing (and pretty much blow a raspberry at Dr. Salvador and the hags with chainsaws). Definately a lot of fun replaying through it (though I'm not currently replaying it).
I hope they continue the path they are on for the series.

One more vote for RE4 here
I absolutely love it, although it took me a while into my first playthrough to realise it.
I also picked up the PS2 version on the cheap recently, I still feel that the Cube has the better version but (to quote someone from another forum) I wouldn't part with either of them
So far, I've:
-Played through GC ver. once (had nearly finished my second playthrough)
-Played through PS2 ver. once
-Completed Assignment Ada (PS2)
-Completed Separate Ways (PS2, obviously)
-Completed figurine collection (PS2)
-
not
completed Mercenaries yet
...actually I've barely made a dent on Mercenaries, though I intend to. I didn't bother with the extras on the GC version at all for some strange reason :/
Oh, and anything that twitches Jacob's Ladder-style = instant freakage.

I like the resident evil games. RE4 was good, I dunno if I'd say it wass my fav. Truth is at some point I loss all expectations for the game when they decided to scrap it and do it again. So when it came out I was like,"Wow! It's out. Better get it!" (Luckily tales doesn't make me wait too much.)
Well, we can never forget the Jill Sandwich quote... wait! How did it go again?

I'm finally getting this on July 22nd, my birthday. I wouldn've gotten it sooner, but with parents like mine, it took longer than it should have.
I'm getting the PS2 version of the game. Extra content of any sort is good enough for me. The slight graphics downgrade I can handle, and I didn't feel like switching discs.

Wow, no wonder regenerators were always such a scary point for me. I
just
(as embarassing as it is) figured out that you can zoom in with the scope. Now they go down fast without using much ammo.
The one thing about replaying from the a clear file after the first time through is that it is just SO SATISFYING to go back and face your fears again but yet this time being armed to the teeth and just blowing the crap out of EVERYTHING. Then just bulldoze everything with the Infinite Rocket Launcher and Chicago Typewriter (no Handcannon for me yet). It's just WOW. It does get to be a little boring being nearly invincible after another playthrough or two with the super weapons, but still...
Other things I like about this game are cutscene skipping... the story was mildly entertaining the first time but after that, it's just zzzzzzzzz.
6th playthrough is almost completed...

Totally agreed. RE4 is so awesome that it acually makes its predecessors look and feel antiquated. It's just the way you go about reinventing a series. Fix ALL of the problems and then add new inspired features as well.
I played through both the GC and PS2 versions several times.

Well, I finished my 7th playthrough and rushed through the rest of my 4th one (to get it over with) today.
Thinking about starting another game to get better with the knife, cause I'm pretty damn sure that's going to be a major necessity for success in Pro mode.
My game backlog weeps... and the Fall deluge is approaching fast...

I beat Pro Mode first time without even using my knife besides crashing crates and all that stuff. I still thought Pro Mode was fairly generous with ammunition.
But 7 playthroughs alread? o.O

I'm a huge survival horror fan. If you want to play really creepy try out the fatal frame series
.
RE4 was good but I prefer the traditional kind of survival horror. RE2 ftw ~_^

The Fatal Frame series is alright, but I prefer Silent Hill overall. I like Forbidden Siren too.
Traditional Survival horror is cool, but RE4 is the only one that actually has great gameplay. RE2 is so dated in this day and age, it's nearly unplayable beside RE4.

Meh. I get to Mendez in my Pro run and realize I'm just not having any fun with this mode. I feel way too pressured to hold onto things and conserve ammo like a mofo. My attache case is constantly 100% full of crap. And besides that, I keep getting killed in the second half of the Mendez fight.
I've learned some new tricks, but I dunno, Normal mode feels just right to me.

You might want to stay away from the PS2 version then. Normal mode PS2 really feels like Pro Mode GC.
I thought that second half Mendez fight was of ok difficulty, really, just make sure you have enough of those flash grenades, they bring him down before he hits you with those deadly tentacles, or you could snip them off really fast before he gets near.
But yeah, Pro Mode forces you to think a bit more about what you keep and what you throw away. I also enjoyed this mode. But Normal is a bit more "mindless fun". You don't have to worry about your inventory so much as worry about unloading what you have into those freaks.

Hmm, are you referring to the PAL versions? I couldn't tell that much difference between them (PS2/GC normal modes, that is).
I need to get around to playing Pro mode, I think it's actually starting to sound a little enticing, heheh :P

Yeah, I'd have to agree with that, although I hold Shadow of the Colossus in equally high regard (but I'm aware that game doesn't click with everyone). Here's hoping GotY is an RPG this year (well,
my
GotY at least - quite likely, I'd imagine) :P

Myself, a freind keeps trying to get me into RE4, but I've never been much of survival horror fan (yes, I'm jumpy, sue me), is it a good game regardless, and worth playing if I'm not a really fan of the genre?
