"LUUUUUUUUUUNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!"

The original Lunar games were what introduced me to RPG's.  The remakes introduced me to anime with it's cutscenes.

These games literally opened up a new world for me.  It made me a geek, and I never looked back.
  The protagonist never had any emotional issues.  Alex and Hiro both just wanted to be heroes for the sake of being heroes, not because some bad guy burned their village to the ground, or murdered their family.  RPG's lack this pure 'goodness for goodness sake' nowadays.

And the way the two games tied together even though they were 1000 years apart.  Epic.
Simply epic.

And talk about character driven!  Who knew goddesses were so interesting?  Or dragons, for that matter!?  Who could've guesed that a power-mad evil elf wizard could turn around and fight the good fight?  And that an annoying apprentice and a shy heiress could get together and become the great great great grandparents of a greedy, partly-crazed, blond witch with an anger problem?

I loved these games on the Sega CD, and I love them on the Playstation!  I cried when Working Designs shut it's doors, and I bawled when it looked like Lunar 3 would never see the ligt of day!

The world is a sadder place without blue-haired goddesses and Dragonmasters around...  *sigh*

I'm gonna go into the corner and cry a bit.... Sad

You mean "Lets be heroes because we can" thing.
Thats because it sounds a *bit* unreal in actual life. Basically everyone needs a motive.
Which is why I mostly wonder in some RPGs why some party members EVEN follow you... (Regal, anyone?)

Hee.  I still have my copies of the PSX remakes. ~~  Haven't played them, but ... yeah. XD

Lunar 1 reminded me of Lufia 1, though ^^;  Blue-haired main girl who is a goddess. lol.

Actually, for me, Lufia 1 reminded me of Lunar 1.  Actually, did the two come out at the same time? o-o

Lufia came out first, I would think.  Though I never played through the whole game, I stopped at the part where that kid robs you at the mall.  I should probably look for the rom and play it again.

I disagree with that.  Which RPG are you thinking of that's not 'unreal'?  Are you saying that somewhere out there is a 'chosen' that's trying to save the world?  Kinda slacking, isn't she?   The "Let's be Heroes because we can" thing is actually pretty refreshing.   And it's more real than you seem to think.   Most police officers weren't witness to a horrible tragedy when they were kids.   I can also turn this into an Obama > McCain thing, but I hate politics.

Dude, play them!!  The Eternal Blue remake is vastly superior to the original!  Go now, hurry!  Grin

Everytime I see someone talking about these games, the nostalgic fanboy inside me wakes up and struggles to possess my body. MUST. RESIST.

Lunar II for the Sega CD is my favorite RPG of all time. I wish Studio Alex were still around, but they got massively screwed over by Lame Arts. Angry

Never quite finished any of the Lunar games. When I played Lunar 1, I reached the forest but stopped playing from there for some reason. I should really try getting around to completing it.

On the topic of Lufia; Lufia 2 is probably one of the best SNES RPGs I've played. If only because the dungeons aren't get from Point A to Point B.

I think I get your point.
Its just my preference that I like something more... human, lets say. Or something more intricate and stunning.
Just because its an RPG it shouldnt be as simple as "You are the hero, save da world NAO, HYA YOU HAVE DA SWOOD!!!". That is why I like Tales series, they *mostly* try to not make simplistic heroes.
Afterall what human is THAT simple.

Your entitled to your opinion, of course.  I just like the way the games were more light-hearted and fun.  The Tales games at least follow that formula.  But Lunar had a special charm that made playing them just that much more fun.  Nash's subtle flirting with Mia put a smile on my face every time.  And Lucia walking naked into the men's bath house just made me wish I could find an oblivious blue-haired girl of my own.

I wonder what John Truitt's doing now...

Just because a character has "simple" motives doesn't mean they're shallow or unrelatable. (See: Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.) There's definitely a world of difference between Hiro of Lunar II and, say, Dean of Wild Arms 5. -_-

I'm sorry... That was probably the dumbest thing to do ever. Do you really know this person? Do you know what happened in their life? What goes on in their head? Can you really hold up this person as the definition or the epitome of simplicity? You do know Larry the cable guy is just a persona the comedian uses right?

It was either him or Bush.  And I figured Bush was already done to death, and it seemed too cliche'.

I didn't mean to offend anyone.   I still don't think it's that bad.   I love Larry, actually.  I'm watching his Roast on Comedy Central atm even though I've already seen it.

I felt I had to reply to Kevassa's comment.  I mean, c'mon, he left himself so wide open for that one  haha

But if it would please the masses, I can put up a picture of myself in my underwear licking my cat for punishment.  I really don't mind.

My point was not to make assumptions about people you don't actually know.

... I have an HDTV.

Just yesterday one of my brothers popped in Lunar 2.

After playing Odin Sphere, the enlarged PSX graphics are quite laughable. XD;;

@ Goshi - I hope to see Lufia games on the Virtual Console eventually ... XD  Damn fun they are.  Lufia II was one of my first RPGs (along with Phantasy Star IV and Tales of Phantasia ...)  I don't remember which of them I played through first, though ... not Phantasia, though, the menu patch at the time prevented me from going further than Efreet's or Undine's caves story-wise ^^;;
