http://www.joystiq.com/20...cs-on-ps3-look-like-crap/

Looking over the comments it seems this is more or less a problem with 480i games.. but that's still 95% of the PS2's library and 100% of the Tales series. It still seems odd to be as I thought they were achieving backwards compatibility through hardware and not software, so it's a bit odd that they just don't play the game at their original resolutions.. I can just imagine how bad 2D games would look with upscaling and heavy aliasing *shudder*.

That has pretty much convinced me not to get a PS3.

Yeah, I saw this awhile ago. Sure sucks to be people who bought it for "potential"... and just play back-catalog games on it until actual good stuff comes out.

Wow. Only *how* many hindreds of dollars? I'm in  Tongue

Come to think of it, maybe it was put in to help people get over spending all that oney. "Wow, see? the ps3 games look SO MUCH better..

What? Sony hasn't shown they recognise consumers as having brains anyway it's possible. Else it came straight out of the ever-expanding, heavily utilised 'retarded desicions' room at HQ.

Wow... That's terrible.  The PS3 is looking less and less attractive every day.  Clearly Sony wasn't ready for the next-gen of gaming.  If they had taken their time, maybe waited until they could lower the price, until they could actually have some good games, actually had some working hardware, the PS3 could have been great.  But right now it's looking like the biggest failure since the Virtual Boy.  That's right.  I'd go there. Woah!  That's pretty bad.  Just how many things with the PS3 have ended up going against Sony?  The PS3 is constantly looking less appealing.

It should be something that can be fixed up in a firmware update.

It's not even the problem itself that concerns me.  Rather, I have to ask why something like this wasn't fixed during development.  That's a HUGE flaw in the system, they MUST have noticed it before they released it.  Which means they probably ignored it on purpose.  With how much they were clearly doing a rush job on it, I can't help but assume that there are going to be more problems arising in the future.  Hopefully that's not the case, but my confidence in Sony lately is very low.

Doesnt stop ppl from buying 'em for outragious prices. Lets face it, the can pack a ps2 w/ a nice new outer cover and ppl would still go crazy to buy it.

I really hope it fails, though. Sony has ben pissing me off more and more, and Nintendo's been more then paletteable lately by comparason (not that I don't have my issues with them). But as long as they are on top, they get all the third party support and, therefore, get to make all the decisions - an area which they seem to lack talent it.

I believe Sony just wanted to bring the ps3 to counter microsoft's expansion (in Euro+Us at least because Japanese ppl don't care much about them anyway)

I don't need a ps3 because we will still have decent ps2 games for at least 1-2 years,
and atm I have FF12, Kh2, VP2, Xenosaga 2+3 and some other games to finish
and the so called HD gfx doesn't really look that impressive to me
they are using the same old boring games and giving them a resolution of 1280x720 thinking it will attract the masses, well it does...

but hey ^^ I will buy a ps3 anyway in 2-3 years when the good games are rolling -__-

They probably don't want that though so people can spend money on a PS2 >_>

Probably to help defer some of the cost of their PS3.
And I wouldn't consider it silly, Chingi, it boggles the mind that they could screw this up that bad. No one was expecting it to be this bad, and by all means it shouldn;t have been, lol

This might be old news, but Sony had announced that the problem stems from HDTVs not being able to recognize the 720 resolution that the PS3 will display PS2 games in, instead the TV will display it at 480 res. They're basically saying this is the TV's fault and not their own, but it is still not clear as to whether or not they'll be fixing it in the future.

Basically, if you plan on using your PS3 with a High Definition TV, make sure it can read the 720 output for those PS2 games, otherwise you'll end up with crappy resolution. I don't even have an HDTV so it might not make much of a difference anyway.
