Atlus USA revealed at Anime Expo that Persona 4 has been confirmed for US release, and will actually come out this year, too. The North American release date has been confirmed: December 9th, 2008.

Needless to say, this is incredibly awesome.

Neat, now if only they'd do a Wii version with 16:9 >_> All the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei are one of the few PS2 games that wouldn't look (or be) insulting on the Wii
And If they continue to support PS2... support will one day be dropped, so this is coming, and what if they do a P4FES? and so on.
But it's good news enough that it's coming and that I'll still play it in 2008.

Expected, but still good. I've yet to play P3, though. I've had it since the original version came out and then also bought FES.
Now NISA just needs to hurry up and announce Ar tonelico 2 and Mana Khemia 2. Long live the PS2, one of the best systems ever.

P3 was the only game of the Megaten universe I couldn't get into, and I heard this one is more of the same... so I'll pass.
But that's great news for P3 fans, and I hope it leads to the announcement of NA versions for Ar Tonelico 2 and Mana Khemia 2, cause I'm *really* interested in those two. Gust

And for the love of God, YHWH, Kagutsuchi or whatever you believe in, Atlus, MAKE SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI IV FOR THE PS3 ALREADY!!!

Aren't they kinda running away from the PS3 when they did Persona 4 for the PS2?

New Persona game cancelled for PS3, moved to PS2
We have received a news tip that Bloomberg Japan is reporting that the new Persona game originally slated for the PS3 has been cancelled and is now being scheduled for a release on the PS2 instead.

I dunno, but I doubt they'd jump on it like that (unless they did like... in 2005, when they thought PS3 would lead), Atlus doesn't have that much money, and doing a SMT on the PS3 would cost a lot more than PS2 costs, when the platform isn't even leading so I don't think it's in their best interest. In contrast, shifting resources for the Wii would allow them to keep using the same engine and still pump out better graphics. That's certainly what I'm rooting for. And Kazuma Kaneko hinted
he'd love to do Shin Megami Tensei Wii
games before the Wii even leaded or was out, so if anything I'd say the odd's are even better now than they were then. (yes please)

I said on the PS3 because of the rumors... but truth is, a SMT4 on the Wii would completely kill my interest in having either a PS3 or a X360, and make the Wii my definitive choice for a current-gen console.
So yeah, I'm hoping the rumors are false and it comes out on the Wii in the end. Even more so, because if Kaneko said he'd like to work on a Wii SMT, that means he would be the character designer in it, and not Soejima (whose work on P3 and on what little I saw of P4 disgust me... and I loved his work on Stella Deus).

I haven't heard SMT4 PS3 rumors
since 2005
. That's actually the only time Atlus spoke of that (they confirmed SMT PS3 via Famitsu), but they also
confirmed Persona PSP once, in 2004
and you know what happened to that... Also Persona 4 who was thought to be for PS3 got the shaft and come out on PS2 instead. (and although I'd like a Wii version with 16:9, thank god, I at least have a PS2)
But who knows, I don't have any wish to get a PS3 just for that though >_<
Kazuma Kaneko didn't do Persona 3? :O I love both guys then, I like the standard, more gritty SMT characters and the lighter Persona ones. But I thought it was all Kaneko.

The character designer for P3 and P4 is Shigenori Soejima (who did an AWESOME job on Stella Deus: The Gate Of Eternity... and he and Kaneko worked together in both Persona 2: IS and EP, for maximum damage).
He is kind of considered a "sucessor" to Kaneko among Megaten fans... some people are already saying Kaneko has plans to retire, and Soejima would take over as the creative designer and supervisor on Atlus R&D1. I don't see that happening anytime soon, and to be honest I don't want it to... at least not before SMTIV is out.

I see, hence why I didn't find Persona 3 that different in artwork to Persona 2, hence... thought it was Kaneko's.
I still haven't picked Stella Deus though, no time, is it any good? Beyond the artwork?

I don't want him to retire EVER
And, he's too young still.

IMO... forgettable music and HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE voice acting (luckily, it can be turned off), gameplay is pretty good and battles are fun... and the story is the best I've seen in a SRPG, with the exception of the Front Mission series (which I'm just as much a fan of as I am of Tales and SMT). Certainly worth a try if you're into the genre.

Same here. I can't imagine the series without his guidance.

Well, there should be a cure for the "HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE voice acting" part.
<link removed> (hint: Stella Deus undub)
I know I've purchased stuff like Persona 3 and a bunch of games really (I buy what I play) and haven't ever played the "original" version once, undub all the way.
I'll look into it, can't ignore it when a fan of fellow SMT and Tales fan says that it's good and has good story (well, credibility when claiming the story is good is only because you're a SMT fan)
