PV for the next SRW on DS is up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJIP2QwayW4

YOU ARE ALREADY PREORDERED. Well, not really, but once I get the money.

Capitalism, ho!

I've been playing around with the demo for Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, an incredibly addictive Japanese indie PC game; one of the very few to actually get an official localization. I'd have to say, even based off just the demo, this is a serious contender for game of the year for me.

Game reminds me of Dragon Quest IV's Torneko chapter with the shop management (except way expanded) combined with some rogue-like. It's a blast. My pre-order for the full game is paid for. Buy it so we can get more of this kind of stuff.

Capitalism ho! indeed... where did you hear about that game? I wonder just how much writer's liberty was taken with the localisation. Not that it's a bad thing as there were some enjoyable references in there. I'm also a bit curious who provided the VA work.

I was initially a bit wary in the difficulty, but it's pretty nice that anything you buy from the merchant guild is set to a 70% base price point, so even if you sell at the 'base' price you'll make a 40% profit. 'Sacrificing' 2 time pieces to go off and loot a dungeon is also great for the amount of cash you can pull out, but there's also that balance with getting sellables and stocking up on reagents for fusions. Then there's that little matter of "You've got a stupidly huge debt to pay off" hanging over your head, which is actually fairly simple if you play conservatively.

That's a pre-order worthy game for me on my reckoning... and it's off for me to crack some skulls in search of some phat lewt.

Just forums. Been following it since I heard about it a couple months ago. I didn't actually start playing the demo until the other day, which I'm actually glad for. The pain of waiting for the full game would've been really horrible if I played it sooner.

Oh, and I did it backwards. I put enough faith in the game that I paid for the full game before starting the demo. I can't say I regret it.

Some of the things Recette says come off as seemingly odd, like possibly OOC or something. She's a little inconsistent like that. I have no idea how she is in Japanese, though.

I restarted the demo and focused a lot more on the dungeon crawling. I got pretty lucky in that the first time I went through the Hall of Trials, I found a lot of good equipment for Louie. I blew through the first week, raising 26k by day 8 and getting Recette's merchant level almost to 5. The equipment shop stocked even better equipment by this point so I grabbed it and cleared floors 11-15 of Jade Way.

Too bad after that run, it was all over...the demo ended. Which I thought was strange since I swear I did it on the first day period, and I thought dungeon runs only consumed two of them. Oh well, I'm pretty sure I'll be transferring this save to the final game.

Very nice.

I focused more on the shop keeping and first playthrough netted 19k at the end of the demo run and mid way through merchant level 5, though I could have gotten more than 19k had I actually bothered to restock the store with more goods on the last day.

Getting back into Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal now that I have a working copy. I also got Maximo Vs. Army of Zin via store credit thanks to Tales of Vesperia. I haven't played much since I was testing to see if the game worked.

Meanwhile in Pokemon Emerald, I caught a Ralts, a Whismur and an Aron.

I have a suspicion that the time goes like this:
1 slice for the town interaction (defaults back to the shop when you get back)
1 slice going out
1 slice coming back

We have been robbed of time, and time is most certainly money in this game.
The dungeon taking 3 pieces of time instead of 2 certainly makes it a bit more expensive to do, but a good haul will set you straight for a full day's worth of sales.

Tales of Innocence, Endless Frontier Exceed, Valkyria Chronicles 2.

Toi: level 20 and I STILL can't deal 100 damage a hit, even in Advance style. And I think I'm in the dungeon nobody likes (that Japan-analogue's tomb). I'm playing as Spada 'cause I want to train up his artes a bit. Luca and Ange are my backup.
Endless Frontier Exceed: TPKO'd before I could get a single action against a boss (Megi Castle, second Heimlin fight). Time to grind!
Valkyria Chronicles 2: I did the first real story fight after several tries. And I got an A! Woot. Not that I'm really entertaining delusions of skill, but I am actually learning how to play now.

I took my 360 out of the closet so I can try to play something else. I need to work on stuff I haven't beaten. Though, I think I may just focus on Atelier Iris 3 and Mana-Khemia.

Final Fantasy XIII. I was mildly hyped up about it when it came out. I normally can care less about Final Fantasy in general but something about XIII got me interested in it. Now that I started playing myself, the hype is gone but I still think the gameplay's solid. Currently about to finish chapter 10.

The characterization comes off as too sudden for me. It feels like there isn't enough buildup to events and the way the narrative skips around between the characters for the first 9 chapters feels like you don't get enough emotional investment into any particular character, making it so that once some character development scene happens, the buildup to that moment already lost steam because you had to switch to another group of characters. Or maybe I'm too ADD to remember things and I've been playing somewhat late at night and commonly end sessions half-asleep from fatigue.

So right now I'm thinking about going back to my old systems and finish off my backlog for those before I'm further spoiled by my shiny new 360. Got Dead Rising and Vesperia in the queue, and looking forward to Arkham City, MVC3, Mirror's Edge 2 (whenever that happens), and like $200 in XBLA games that I want but am holding off on.

Got my Grandia II left on Dreamcast, and maybe Jet Grind Radio if I'm patient enough for the load times. I remember getting stuck on one part years ago, gave up, and never touched it again.

Got Baten Kaitos, Baten Kaitos Origins, and Skies of Arcadia Legends left on Gamecube. Fun fun.

Got Ico left on PS2. Then got the Silent Hill and Fatal Frame series for if I get back into a horror game mood, but not concerned if I never play them.

Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht.

Yes that's right I finally got it. Well sort of. I imported the collection only to realize Episode 1 doesn't work with SwapMagic since the thing is a bloody dual layer. So I went and downloaded the patched DVD5 version (Which I kinda wanted to avoid. My internet isn't the best for this sort of thing). At least I can play it now! Great game. Lack music in the actual gameplay parts is a little down heartening but its not like some of Xenogears' dungeons were any better.

At least I won't have to go through that trouble once I get started on Episode 2 and 3!
