BTW is it actually possible to beat the bosses without the Gears?? o.o Kogahazan´s comment makes me wonder...

unless the game forces you into gears, making it impossible to face the boss on foot, yes. you just have to be powerful enough (sometimes REALLY powerful).

by the end of the game, you're pretty much forced into gears, though if you fight random tough enemies meant to be fought in gears, you can own them pretty hard with fei's kokei/yamikei and/or citan's elemental deathblows. doubly so if you use the power crisis, which can pretty much let you hit for 9999 on foot. yeah.

I have a friend who holds Xenogears in high regard. He was telling me about how funny it is to level up your characters and totally murder enemies that were meant to be fought in gears.

Its more fun though since Deathblows are awesome.

It does prove that Citan and Fei are pretty much the strongest characters though. I wouldn't fight the enemies in the final dungeon outside Gears though since their Halo spells hurt a lot even when in a Gear.

Actually just got bart (the operation thing), seems like the game´s story is going nowhere in this point, though awesome charater background for the Doc

Citan is the best at everything. Looks, back story, personality, stats... its really hard to hate him. Heimdall is a pretty bad gear though. His 2nd gear however is one of the best and follows his awesome combat ability.

Back on topic:

Playing Final Fantasy IV DS. Enjoying it so far, the seemed to have increased the difficulty too, though it isn't as hard as the original Japanese version. Also Tellah makes the random encounters trivial and Edward's Lullaby... if it works.

Well, I'm going to end up doing another Tales of Vesperia playthrough and even thinking of replaying Tales of Symphonia while I'm at it.  I just haven't started it yet.

In the mean time, before I do that and waiting to get Bully in the mail, I also am playing another game.

Alone in the Dark (Xbox 360).  I've heard this game is one of those, "You might want to give it the benefit of the doubt" and I decided to go ahead and rent it.  While I'm not one of those people that played the previous games but I pretty much sense this one isn't like the old games (The first game dealed with a haunted mansion and pioneered the survival horror genre).  Either way, I see some of the flaw (I find the driving to be iffy in some area but not outright bad), but I am having an enjoyable experience anyway.  I also liked how they're playing the game like it's some TV show.  You have access to most of the levels/episode like it's TV on DVD and they even went as far as doing a "Previously on..." sequence when you continue your save game.  Like I said, it's enjoyable.  Hey, at least I'm not watching an Uwe Boll movie.

Been playing a lot of SRW Z, and that's basically it.

The PSP version of Yggdra Union. I'm up to Gulcasa who as those who played the GBA version know is insanely hard to defeat due to having Scythes (Which beat Swords, Axes and Spears) and the most overpowered move in any RPG called Genocide (Sacrifices all allies in battle and adds their attack stat to his, also destroys your gauge preventing you from using skills).

He's a lot more tolerable though since you get a new character who can also use scythes and a card that lowers the enemy's rage gauge. However I still got a game over anyway =(

Xenogears disc 2
Actually loved Disc 1, am about 3 hours in disc 2, hell I ran away most battles since battles dont award anything.
Disc 2 is completely craptastic compared to Disc 1, as far as I am.
The game completely went from the typical "HUGE STORY" ---> "HUGE DUNGEON"
to "SUMMARY"--->"LOCKED DUNGEON" ---> "HELL SUMMARY">"SUMMARY">"MOAR SUMMARY"-->"BOSS"
I already think fei´s legs are sleepy from being sit on that chair that long... geez

Im mad cause there were at least 7 moments so far that could be extremely well done. And they totally failed to execute them. Well I cant complain, I have still dungeons...´
Ramsus death, Emeralda development, Nanobot release, saving the world from that huge robot and the monster thing plus how they were saved and how they destroyed the facility... ALL of this was compressed in 3 summaries with 3 bosses.

Ramsus doesn't die if I recall. When you see the scene with those 4 girls consoling I'm pretty sure he just wishes to no longer be part of this conflict

Emeralda, IMO did need more development. Doesn't help that the version of Fei and Elly she came from has little development as well. I suspect the books probably work on that time line though.

yeah, Disk 2 is the main thing people bitch about in Xenogears.

to quote a fellow anon

Quote from: Anon
You wanna know what Xenogears Disk 2 is like?  It's the equivalent of watching the first 2 LotR movies, only for Return of the King to consist almost solely of Frodo sitting down, reading the actual novel to you

they ran out of money, supposedly. i assume they intended to make the rest of the game just like disc 1. your lack of choices did fit well with the depressing mood of the story well though.

interestingly, i WISH certain parts of abyss had taken this route. cutscenes, boss, cutscenes, boss, etc., instead of forcing you to run your ass around a bunch of towns doing absolutely nothing interesting in between cutscenes. well, i'm not sure there would really be bosses in between, maybe just a big chunk of cutscenes, a chance to explore/do sidequests/go train, option to return to the plot when you're done, another batch of cutscenes, back to questing, etc.

and lol @ anon's quote

Though the overall feel of the game went pretty... meh
I mean what would you prefer, going on vacations with a friend, or letting a friend tell you how the vacations were?

I didn't mind Disk 2 so much. The huge amount of cutscenes never bothered me at all. But then again this coming from someone who plays a lot of VNs =/

depends.  Where did they go on vacation?

Besides, anything was better than going through Krelian's lab again.  That goddamn maze!

I love VN too (even OMGWTFOTL), but in a VN I expect that kind of gameplay.  In a JRPG I expect the ability to do something!

XD Lol about the vacation thing
I want to point out I wouldnt mind the huge amount of story if it was in a dialogue, and not a summary. Thats my point. I want to see how the character reacted at certain events...
The real potential it has, Xenogears deserves a remake, NAO XDXD!!

oh certainly, I understand that, and I agree that it deserves a remake.

now, back to on-topic, started playing SRW@3 again along with Z.

Mainly for the use of one particular character...
