One thing I'm trying to figure out is why TP gets so much crap for apparently being a "rehash". It's only the 4th game that's used the OoT model in 10 years, and it had also been 4 years since the last one.. No one cares when it's a new 2D game. No one cares when they release Megaman CEMENT XP 2830947238. No one's complaining about Metal Gear Solid 4 or Devil May Cry 4. But apparently OoT model Zelda is tired and needs to be put to rest. There aren't even many clones out there. I didn't hear anyone complaining when Super Mario World came out, either.

I figure I should add something here.

I was aware that many people also made the "rehash" comment about Twilight Princess (Even a friend of mine thought the same thing, which is probably why I only mention the "Ocarina of Time rehash" thing instead of getting more into it).  What probably got the big kick with the "rehash" was seeing RPGFan's review of Twilight Princess that, while giving good marks, wasn't "singing praise to Nintendo."  The review brings up the rehash issue and it's not just Ocarina of Time but many other Zelda elements combined being rehashed with dated stuff.  I don't what you'd say about the whole, "It's not just the Ocarina of Time stuff but several other Zelda elements being rehashed" thing but I figure I should bring that up.

Then again, people did complain about New Super Mario Bros. not being up to standard (with a few "Yoshi's Island DS is superior" thrown in there later).  I'm just thinking it comes down to "They expected more from a game in a highly regarded series."

That's pretty much what I wanted to say and I'll drop the subject now.

Ah, making fun of Raiden.  I don't hate Raiden (it's just, "He's no Solid Snake.") but making fun of Raiden is so much fun!  Just reminding me I want to replay it again via Subsistence.

Final Fantasy III DS. Its like 100 times better than Final Fantasy XII. I don't care if about all that "dated" trash. The game is old school Final Fantasy and thats all that matters to me =)

Kirby Squeak Squad. Its not as good as Kirby Superstar or Amazing Mirror but its a pretty good game at least. Too short for my liking though and the true final boss is a wimp.

By model you mean formula correct? Well the idea of doing 3 dungeons and then another few dungeons was first used in A Link to the Past actually. I don't see anyone whining about that to OoT. Heck, OoT is so similar to ALttP in so many ways. I haven't played TP yet though. Atlhough I have a Wii, I'm hunting for the GCN version since I prefer traditional controls in all honesty.

I actually found Yoshi Island DS to be worse than New Super Mario Bros. Yoshi Island DS, IMO, reused more elements than Super Mario Bros. A majority of the enemies and some boss ideas were practically reused and the Kamek transforming thing and everything. Its like a harder version of Yoshi's Island with a worse soundtrack and more variations of baby cries.

I'm not saying its a bad game though, both games are excellent either way.

I spent a few days trying to complete everything possible in the Puzzle Quest PC demo. I've ordered the DS version because it's incredibly awesome and one of the biggest surprises in awhile. Going to replace it with the PC version when it becomes available, though.

I've been playing the DS version for a week now. It may not be free of a few bugs (namely getting the same board layout on every first game and some sound issues) but they're easy enough to work around, unlike the PSP's companion bug.

Not much else to report, I recently finished God of War I & II and am also playing MGS3 Snake Eater (Subsistence version). I still need to finish Twilight Princess Sad  (I haven't actually played on the Wii in well over a month)

Picked up Izuna for the DS the other day. Been wanting to play it, but had no money... Anyway the game gets bashed so hard for being difficult and 'oldschool' without any actual information on what the game is like. (incidentally, this game can be had used almost everywhere, for better or worse) So hopefully I can clear this up - though I'm likely the only one who ever cared.

Anyway, the game plays out with (I think 9?)  sets of randomly generated dungeons (every time you enter them) of 5-8 floors. Each floor has a few main rooms, a handful of enemies and items and a staircase. stairs are one-way, so to exit, you need either to finish the thing, use a [return] spell or die. Anyone who's played Lufia 2's treasure island-thing will know what I'm talking about.

Speaking of Lufia 2, that's exactly how it works, ever action is a turn, and enemies move when you do. butt up against an enemy and hit attack and you'll swing at it ala Azure Dreams. Shuriken/kunai/bombs/floortacks can also be used for one turn if you have them, and every turn nets you back some health, so running away or skipping turns can heal you. So how you move/attack makes battle more like a puzzle then anything. Th enemies get progressively tougher, while adding elements like trap squares and dark areas in in later dungeons.
Now, the 'bad' news is that if you die, you lose everything you have, minus EXP/level and return to town. There is a storehouse for money/items, and those [return] spells I mentioned? They can be instead placed on a weapon/bracer to have it return if you die instead. All the spell talismans can either be cast or placed on a weapon, etc. It takes a while, but for the first 3 dungeons so far, I'm really liking the game. Though I seem to have a newfound acid HATRED of tadpoles...

I got Izuna over a month ago but I dunno when I'll get around to playing it. It's apparently a roguelike dungeon crawler so of course it's going to be really damn hard and unforgiving.

I have to say that it's aged awfully. It's the only game in recent memory that I got rid of in the midst of playing. It's the kind of game that would've been fun 10 years ago because there's nothing else to play. I had no nostalgia to rose tint my experience, so it just felt like a below average RPG to me...

And I just finished my playthrough of Resident Evil 4. I think I just need to accept the fact that I think this is my favorite game of the PS2/GC/XBOX generation. A biased part of me is still screaming blasphemy that I'd pick something like that over my favorite RPGs during that period. I really can't wait for the Wii version...

All this talk of RE4 got me interested in it. I borrowed the GCN demo disc from a friend a while back and it was quite interesting but I never got completely into it because I wasn't a big RE fan from the start. I just read a giant plot synopsis of the series so I would know what was being talked about, but still didn't get in to it. Since I probably won't be getting a Wii in the foreseeable near future, I "got" the PS2 version... I probably would have bought the GCN version if I could, but I'm penny pinching for school which also has me occupied. I don't think I'll be able to invest much time into it anyway which would make it a waste of $20 if I wouldn't be able to extensively play it. I like what I've played so far though, it's real great. Just wish the PS2 version didn't load so damn much.

As for what else I'm playing so far... finally, Hokuto no Ken for PS2 has arrived. My friend and I have been waiting for this game, despite all the bad rap it's been getting for its broken fighting system. We were playing it and another one of my friends just wouldn't stop saying how horrible the game was without even playing it. This is one of the few games where I don't really blame him for hating it because even the most dedicated HnK fan that has played any other fighting game knows that this game is broken. To his credit, he never really got into non-game HnK. My friend and I got into the anime and HnK as a whole, so we like the game because it was true to the anime (even has Ai wo Torimodose as the intro song).

And for more violence, God of War II. Pretty much more of the same, but that's not a bad thing in GoW's case. I think I'll finish up my God mode playthrough in the first game before going any further in the second.

I wasn't an RE fan. What got me to finally give in to the hype was watching an infamous cutscene. Incidentally, the story is easily the worst part of the game...

PS2 version looks weaksauce, and not just graphically speaking. I saw a video of a particularly intense fight, where you fight a flood of enemies. It looked like it had about 1/3-1/2 the number of enemies...

Yeah, it's worse than the GCN version in the technical department. Muddier textures, lowered lighting effects (which is bad because lighting creates a lot of the atmosphere of the game), reduced quality sound effects because of lack of audio RAM (you'll probably notice this even without playing the GCN version, it's that bad), longer load times (big surprise... it gets annoying if you played the GCN version because it also applies to going in and out of the menu which makes it irritating if you constantly change weapons), cutscenes that used to be real-time are now movies to compensate for the graphics (I think that was the reason), lowered polygon count resulting in a lowered maximum of on-screen enemies (explains why you saw fewer enemies). Although it's preference, I prefer the GCN controller for it. I think eventually I'll spring for the GCN version if I end up not getting a Wii any time soon and if my interest in it holds... if I do get a Wii, then needless to say I'll get that version. I think I can suffer through this version for now, not like the negatives make it unplayable or anything.

I was thinking if I had nothing to do, I would have checked out the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4.  Then again, with the Wii version coming and having the PS2 extra, maybe I'll go that way instead.  I'll probably check it out but haven't made any commitment in buying it again.

Well, while I wait later this week to go and get Super Paper Mario, I'm just fooling around with a Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox) that my friend forgot to take with him previously.  It's a great game (and I have no clue if using a custom soundtrack with the game may have messed with my mind saying that).  Only problem I have is the announcer cutting into the currently playing song.  I just find it annoying that I get too into a song on my playlist and the announcer just cuts in, stopping it.  Other than that, I now feel the need to get a Burnout game (despite coming from the company everyone loves to hate).

I'm playing Lunar Knights on DS and SSX Blur on Wii.

Not feeling Lunar Knights, I'm still waiting for the great parts to kick in (after 5 hrs in), I don't particularly like the dungeons or the world structure either; for an Action RPG, it feels a little too linear. :/

SSX Blur is great though, love the controls and though it took a while for me to get it, nowe I'm having a real blast with it.

I liked the DS version just as much as the NES version actually. Though the added plot sorta bothers me since the attempted additions to the plot didn't fit in too well. Plus the additions practically disappeared once you got off the Floating Continent.

Well I liked it just fine. But then again this is coming from the person who's second favorite Final Fantasy is in fact the first one >_>

If you compare it to newer RPGs then it does seem like its falling short but it is the only decent RPG on the NDS so far. The next DQ game is looking pretty good. Then again I haven't played any other RPGs on the NDS.

DQM:J, M&L:PiT, Magical Vacation, Rune Factory etc

You have to keep in mind this is coming from a guy who hasn't played or even bothered to get a bunch of RPGs for his NDS.

Anyway though I'm behind the times I did get The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I wanted the GCN version but ended up getting the Wii version since the GCN version is somewhat rare. The controls aren't as bad as I though though I would prefer an attack button rather than swinging the Wiimote. Easily the best 3D Zelda game though.
