Indeed. I recently came across this article from someone who suggested that if Inafune did this for Lost Planet and Dead Rising, then he could have done it for MML3

But he did it to fight back against a rule at Capcom that mandated that 80% of the company’s output had to be a sequel to a previously released game.

I still want a 3DS for many of the other great looking games (KH 3D, RE Revelations, Layton 5, Layton v Wright, etc) but I'm really sad (though not surprised) this was canceled.
