Still on my one and only, which incidentally was broken when I received it. I repaired it. Though the second control port doesn't work. It's incredibly rare that I have a second player anyway. The rest of the system is flawless.

Still on my first. It's real bitchy when it comes to reading CDs, though.

I'm still on my first but mine is one of the "supposed" better models. It's actually been perfect until just recently where a wire snapped inside (which was likely my fault for screwing it back together too tight after the mod-chip install) but I put in a new mother board for that (my game shop has tons of spare parts). Now, from what I'm told the main issue with model 9 and 10 PS2s is that now the drive is making a grinding noise if I play CD based games, but the manager at said shop said all it needed was a bit of grease and it'd remain 100% for a good while.

I've never had any problems with them.
I'm currently on my second PS2, a newer (fat) silver model modded with a Matrix Infinity chip, but my old one (bought a year after the UK launch) is still going strong, my sister now has it.

My first PS2 stopped reading CDs, then DVDs so I had to get a new one. That one still works fine after 4 years.

The first one got fried somehow ... must have something to do with watching a lot of DVDs on it or something (we DID go on a bootlegged Yu Yu Hakusho marathon - funny subtitles but they hurt your brain trying to understand >.< )
The second one got fried because of the mod chip in it. oO
On the third one. It's one of those small ones.
I miss playing Pocket Fighter. xD At least I don't have to see GTA games on the PS2 anymore. Not that I hate GTA itself but I just don't really like it (what do I mean? o.O )

I heard about the Gamecube's laser needing calibrating after a while but I haven't heard much about PS2 problems...
Mine is still working perfectly fine even after I messed up the CD tray when I replaced the case. Managed to "fix" it though...
Now's it's pretty in blue.

Still on my first, the one and only PS2 I have owned. It was also modded and still works just fine.

Wow, I'm not sure where you read that but it's generally quite the opposite. Gamecubes are built like tanks while the PS2 is rather notorious for its issues. There was (still is?) a class action lawsuit or some kind of settlement about the common disc read errors found in the first couple generations of the machine even.

And check out ebay. Most of the broken Gamecubes there have disc read errors according to the sellers. But I really don't know since I don't have a Gamecube. I'm waiting for Wii to come out and drop Gamecube's price down.

Adding another personal experience, I'm actually on my second Gamecube... But I had my first GCN before my PS2. Anyway, I get disc read errors with my first GCN. I don't know if it's a lens calibration problem or not, but I didn't bother getting it fixed. I got a new GCN bundle with an extra controller and Mario Kart Double Dash, so that was a better value than fixing my first.

You may as well get a Wii since it's fully compatable with all GCN games. You'll be buying GCN games either way, so why not spring for more possibility?

I'm on my second and third, but the first one still works. I had a Japanese model 10000 first, and sold it to a friend to buy a model 30000 to use an internal HDD and one less power socket to play FFXI in 2002. Then I bought an Astral Blue US model 30001. All of my in-person friends take better care of their US systems than I ever did of my JP systems (both of which were bought second-hand from smokers), and all of them are on their second, third, or fourth US PS2s because the previous ones they owned stopped working. Meanwhile, talking to other importers, I've only ever heard one mentioning DRE happening to a Japanese system they've owned.

On my first, which is modded. Makes a lot of noise when loading things, but it works perfectly outside of that.

Actually I didn't know that about Wii (I'm busy). My problem is that I don't like paying $250(?) for a console that has just been released. I like to wait awhile, see everyone complain about the problems they're having, and then the price drop. I figure that a year later, Wii's price will drop but so will GC! I'm not in a particular rush since I'm still busy with my PS2 and GBA.
