I posted this on the Tales of Forums as well, but I figured I'd ask here as well.

Quote
Hey everyone,

I'll be getting a PS3 in about a week, and have a list of games that I'm interested in.  Since this is the Tales forums, and my favourite games for last-gen are Tales games, I thought this place would be good to ask.  Wanna help me figure out which one to get first?  My budget's about $100 for games.  If you have any other suggestions, by all means go for it.  As you can tell from the list, I'm completely opening to importing from Asia, as long as my PS3 can play it.

RPGs:
- Eternal Sonata ($35 at Amazon)

SRPGs:
- Valkyria Chronicles ($40 at Amazon)
- Tears to Tiara: Kakan no Daichi ($75 at Play-Asia)

Platformers:
- LittleBigPlanet ($40 at Amazon)

Action:
- Ryu ga Gotoku 3 ($75 at Play-Asia)
- Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan ($30 at Play-Asia)
- Samurai Dou 3 ($65 at Play-Asia)

Shooting:
- Time Crisis 4 ($110 at Play-Asia)

Thanks for any input!

Valkyria Chronicles is pretty damn good from what I hear. I personally have no suggestions of my own. One of my friends however, who hates on ps3 but got one anyway, has thoroughly enjoyed Valkyria. He showed it to me, I would play it if I had a ps3. He pretty much only likes that and Disgaea 3, with every other ps3 exclusive disappointing him.

If the language is not a barrier... then Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan kicks butt.

Also as aforementioned... Disgaea 3. Alternatively and since I believe you're leaning towards RPG's... check Folklore and... that's about it, can't think of much else.

Seconded. If you can get any PS3 game, get Valkyria Chronicles. Also with the DLC packs released in the US you can now play as Valkyria Selvaria, which is nothing short of awesome.

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I was pretty sure I'd go for Valkyria Chronicles, everyone says great things about it, and it looks absolutely beautiful.  Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan is cheap and looks awesome, so I want to get that as well.

I'm also looking at Metal Gear Solid 4, Mirror's Edge, and Prince of Persia 4.  However, I tend to SUCK at these kinds of games, so I was thinking it might be better to leave these until later...

I'm going to suggest Valkyria Chronicles as well as it is by far, the best game on the PS3 only followed by Disgaea 3 which is pretty much outclassed by Disgaea 2 PSP >_>

Eternal Sonata isn't console exclusive but the PS3 version is much better than the XBox360 version since they cleaned up the cutscenes and made the story a lot better. Its not too bad though the optional dungeon is horrible =(

Metal Gear Solid 4 does have a lot more action than the previous games in the series (Unfortunately) but the main claim of fame is the storyline. Its still a stealth game in the first two chapters at least.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is always a good buy.  Call me a huge fan.

I personally found Mirror's Edge to be a bit lacking.  The graphics are kinda disappointing, and the story feels cliche'.  You should rent it first.

Other than the already stated suggestions, all I can add is Bioshock and the Orange Box.  If you like FPS type games at all, these are a must own.

There's another game on the tip of my tongue but I need time to remember it.

Oh, and someday down the line your gonna want Little Big Planet, simply because of how ridiculously addictive it is.

And finally, when you get the PS3 up and running online, don't forget to add me to your buddy list Wink

Be careful when getting multiconsole games for ps3. In most cases they're better on xbox360 (and no it's not because ps3 sucks) because the devolpers of most games use the xbox 360 as their base platform and port over to the ps3. If unsure about which console to get your multiplatform games on go to http://www.eurogamer.com. They have very in-depth comparisons of  multiplatform games for both xbox360 and ps3. Of course this only applies to you if you have an xbox 360 as well anyway.

oh no, i personally wouldn't suggest that game. don't get me wrong, i'm a fan of the MGS series but that particular one was weak because the story was just so uninteresting. it was also too easy seeing as the fact that most of the guns are avialable once you can access the shop.

I got my PS3 yesterday along with LittleBigPlanet and MGS4.  Not touching MGS4 until I finish 1-3, though (working through 2 at the moment).  I don't know how the buddy thing works though, I'll figure it out sometime.  Smiley

I just recently beat MGS4 and I thought it was awesome. That is definitely a smart buy. I was also wanting the Valkyria Chronicles. I thought RE5 was good. That is really all that is out right now that is any good.

I definitely recommend Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, if you like action games, adventure and shooter elements in third person perspective, you'll like this game.
