At the Square Enix Party, Squeenix announced they are remaking FFIV for the DS, similarly to FF3, but with more detailed graphics, a more fleshed out story, and possibly some other updates.

Here are some screens:  http://tinyurl.com/3djz6y
And some more news:  http://tinyurl.com/2mk32b

On the Star Ocean side, the 4th game has been announced to use "The next-gen hardware" but no platforms have been decided, we're just pretty sure it's not for the 6th gen consoles. What excites me more is that they're remaking Star Ocean 1 and Star Ocean 2 for the psp, with updated graphics and what seems like an updated combat system. I'm interested in the remake of one because I've never played it. Maybe they'll remake Blue Sphere for the DS or something XD   http://tinyurl.com/2j9m8w

It holds some special memories for me, too. My brother used to play it all the time back in 93' when I was 4.

We already have a discussion on the Star Ocean stuff on this very forum...

I still hold that Cecil looks incredibly fruity in FF4 DS. I've gotta give them the bird over this, though. SE's current Final Fantasy milking makes Namco's Tales milking look incredibly tame by comparison. I'll be buying this either used or through an unauthorized reseller to keep my sale from putting more money in SE's pockets and being reflected on the NPD.

i probably wouldn't mind as much if cecil didn't look as ridiculous as he does. that, and FF3 seems awkward enough that i wouldn't want the same guys to program FF4. maybe it would have been better on a more powerful system? perhaps with more realistic proportions, like ff8 (or at least ff9)?

As for the SO1 remake, in the screens they have, it looks like they just brought SO1 characters into the SO2 "World". Talking on SO2-style towns and in the exact engine the second story uses for battles - which I always kind of hoped they'd do, personally, but I suspect they're just test shots...

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't mind the characters. I don't know why they don't seem awkward at all to me. Oh well, all the more enjoyment for me.  Grin

Wow, it's looking better and better with each release of information. I know a couple of other people who will be very pleased to see this when it hits the stores. Although, so far it's universally agreed between us that Cecil looks like a girlyman. I'm sure Golbez will make up for it.

Yay for return of the 5-character battle system! I was worried they might cut down the battle party numbers.

Yeah, I was a bit worried too as I didn't like how FFIII DS cut down on enemies per battle.

The 5 character system makes FFIV unique and it's great to see that preserved and it's very encouraging to see more than three enemies already in the first real battle shot (FFIII Ds had a max of 3 enemies per battle 99% of the time when the FC original could have upwards of 9).

Looking great.  Grin

This, DQIV remake, ASH and Tales of Innocence makes me a happy DS owner.

Maybe it's the angle but I think dark knight cecil looks a lot less fruity in these scans than the earlier ones. Paladin Cecil looks great... but my favorite in-game model is Rosa's. Kain looks fine... if a bit like Batman... not sure what the deal is with the chin. Not caring for the child Rydia model though-- it looks a lot older, and seems to have lost every ounce of cuteness the original sprite had. Sure she's angry in that still, but...

Yeah he does. Totally making him party leader when running around towns.

Anyway the game does look great. The enemy count hasn't been affected much from the looks of it either.

It wasn't too big of a deal though since they adjusted the enemies stats to make up for it.

I have the Dejap rom translation of the SNES rom of Star Ocean 1 and I am playing it on the SNES9x PSP port (the UO y32 version plays it alright with a frameskip of 3-4) and it is a very good game and I have borrowed my brother's copy of Star Ocean 2 and had converted the discs to work with the Sony PSP PSOne emulator (Dark Alex's custom firmware supports homemade PSOne eboots) and it is a good game too. Remakes or even ports of these games would sell. I wanted a GBA port of Star Ocean 1 so that I could play it on my GameCube Game Boy Player, but it will never happen. I wish that there would be a US Christmas 2007 shopping season release of English language versions of these remakes but I doubt that it will happen. I will buy Final Fantasy IV DS but Dark Knight Cecil looks too much like Viewtiful Joe for my tastes. Rosa and Kain don't look that bad, though. I have yet to see screenshots of the Elemental Lords or Edward, Rydia, Edge, Golbez, FuSoYa, Paladin Cecil, Zemus/Zeromus, or the summon creatures, preferably King Leviathan, Queen Ashura, and Odin (a.k.a. King Baron transformed).

The in-game character models look great. Especially Rosa. :3
