Though I'm not expecting this to also relate to the Wii discussion in my "Decline of Nintendo" topic, I figure I should go into the topic for E3 2006 to talk about the things going on at E3.

First thing's first, to hear something outside of Wii...PS3 info.

PS3 US release on November 17.  $499 for 20GB version and $599 for 60GB.

Chief: That's Crazy Talk.
Bart: No, it's true. I bought it from an Indian on your reservation.
Chief: I know. That's my brother, Crazy Talk. We're all a little worried about him.

I'd like to say that... the conference took it's time to start, sure, it WAS funny how they had music playing after a half hour of waiting, but still.

As for what else was shown, the PS3 is showing mixes of good and bad, I'm liking that Heavenly Sword, the new Sonic and heck, even the new FF! That wierd card thing was pretty neat as well (DUCKY!) as well as that Warhawk. Don't really have much else to say.

And is it me, or was that SOLID SNAKE about to BLOW HIS HEAD OFF!?

Also those prices are insane.

The PS3 controller is no longer looking like one of Batman's toys.  It's going back to the design that works best.

Looks like the Batarang controller really wasn't well received.  It now looks like the Dual Shock controller we have come to know.  Not only that, Wii will notice that they did borrow a little bit of an idea from someone else since it has movement tracking.

The controller redesign is old news but my brother has held the boomerang controller before on a PS3 prototype while he was in Japan, he did say it was awkward to hold and it was a pain to use, so there we go.

The new Sonic game does look awesome although there's yet ANOTHER Sonic clone. Gee, Sonic Team are so creative with ideas, it amazes me.

I tried to count how many Final Fantasy titles are being shown at this E3, but I kept losing count and stopped bothering. I heard someone else proclaim a count of 12 though. Not that I'm complaining, but maybe this'll make people ease up on the accusations that Tales is being milked too much.

Nice to know what's up with the PS3 controller. *plans game design schoolwork accordingly o_O*

Tilt-sensing controller. I wonder who gave them THAT idea. They're touting it as an innovation. And it didn't even look very accurate.  Roll Eyes

$600 for the fullly featured system, too.

Maybe someone on the dev staff played Kirby's Tilt 'n Tumble on a GBC?

Sony seems to have no actual strategy, this way they no way are able to keep their current market share.

The decline of Sony Computer Entertainmet...?
I've been thinking that too. The PlayStation 3 won't have as many features as we thought (they've even cut stuff out of the 'full' system, and the 'core' system has lost even more), it'll be more expensive than either of its rivals, it's got so much power that even Sony doesn't know what to do with it, the entire future of the optical storage it's based around is uncertain at best, the new pad is so similar the old one now that you'll actually have to point out the differences to people, and since it's new technology made by Sony, the first generation of consoles will have huge supply shortages and fall apart within a year anyway.

I think I may be calling this the PS3DO.

Yes that's what was shown at the end of the trailer. It was,as he stated, the last thing he needed to do,it still came to a shock to me too.Still,I'm looking forward to MGS4,it looks to be the final of the series.

With the Final Fantasy one....it's going to be seperated into 3 versions:

I saw the Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer and man, I know I'm going to want to get a PS3 to play that.  It was cool seeing all those past Metal Gear Solid characters again.  I can't wait to play it.

After seeing Twilight Princess being played on a Wii, I have to say, I'm finally excited over a Zelda game again.  I really like how it played on a Wii.  Aiming and shoving with the controller.  Forget playing this on a Gamecube, I'm playing it on the Wii!

Also, just when I thought my Gamecube was going to gather dust due to Twilight Princess on Wii, out comes Super Paper Mario.  Just from watching the 26 second clip, I can't even tell how much RPG elements there are going to be.  It looks more like 2D platform fused with 3D elements.  Even to a nod to New Super Mario Bros., Mario does grow ridiculously big.  Well, I'm intrigue to see more.

Nintendo, you're really pulling me in this time.  Maybe I shouldn't have doubted you previously.

I even made reference to how Sony may have gotten that idea.  They really must be desperate.  Of course, it seems like everything get stolen these days.  I have to find that quote from the Simpsons about stealing ideas.

Also, I found the posting options does have crossout tags so I'll like to do something else with your last comment, Cless, along with my Decline of Nintendo topic title.

The Decline of Nintendo Sony Computer Entertainment?  (Sorry, I couldn't help myself)

My friend told me something about that. He didn't know if it was meant jokingly or not, but they purposefully made Snake old in this one so they can kill him off and not have to make anymore games.

I remember that episode... it was about the guy who really created Itchy and Scratchy and the main who took his idea tried justifying himself by saying everything gets copied and goes on to list a bunch of examples...

I am absolutely freaking stoked for Wii. Most anticipated console in the universe.

Yeah, the press conference is just leaving one really major bad vibe to me. It seems like they're pricing themselves out of the mass market. I think that Sony's reign will be over with PS3. If anything, I'm thinking it'll be DS vs PSP all over again.

With PS3 and Wii both having the tilt/movement thing, Sony and Nintendo have effectively teamed up (maybe not intentionally) to screw over Microsoft. Developers who would normally put a game on all three systems are going to be tempted to use the movement sensors and not be able to put their game on 360.

Anyway, if PS3 gets all the popular games again, they'll win the console wars again regardless of how crappy the system is.

I managed to popped in my Season 7 DVD of the Simpsons and got the exact quote from the episode.

Quote
Okay.  Maybe my dad did steal Itchy.  But so what?  Animation is built on plagiarism.  If it weren’t for someone plagiarizing The Honeymooners, we wouldn’t have The Flintstones.  If someone hadn’t ripped off Sergeant Bilko, there’d be no Top Cat.  Huckleberry Hound?  Chief Wiggum?  Yogi Bear?  Ha!  Andy Griffith.  Edward G. Robinson.  Art Carney.  Your Honor, you take away our right to steal ideas, where are they gonna come from—her?

I bring up the quote for how true it is, even for a different subject.  If I alter the quote a bit, it could also be a satire of Sony stealing ideas from Nintendo.

Quote
Okay.  Maybe Sony did steal the motion sensor thing from Wii.  But so what?  The game industry is built on plagiarism.  If it weren’t for us plagiarizing Nintendo's Rumble Pak, we wouldn’t have a perfected rumbling system with the Dual Shock!  If someone hadn’t ripped off the analog stick, there wouldn't be a better analog stick and even two analog sticks on the Dual Shock!  Crash Team Racing?  Crash Bash?  Ha!  Mario Kart!  Mario Party!  Your Honor, you take away our right to steal ideas, where are they gonna come from—Microsoft?

Oh, the Sony fanboys are going to attack me for this attempt at satire.  Of course, the Crash games mentioned were from a different developer and Crash moved away from staying on only a Sony console after those two game but was significant enough for the satire since, at the time, Crash games were only on a Sony system (Just to clear something up).

However, it seems more like Sony and Nintendo in the ring.  Sony fanboys may end up claiming that Sony did it better but we'll have to wait and see what happens.  Whoever has the popular games will be the victor, after all.  Though so far, I'm not really favoring Sony.
