Discussion about "I hate it because it's cool to and be annoying about it!"

This ended up coming to my mind over the past three days that I'll like to hear what you have to say in the matter.

Okay, to start off, I want to mention one thing.  I officially got myself into Halo.  Despite bad experience with the previous two games, I was wondering about how Halo 3 got me hyped.  Well, during New Year's Eve, one of my friend, while heading back to his place to pick up his Guitar Hero stuff, I decided we'll take his Halo 2 with us.  After playing it with my friend, I realize that I really am starting to like Halo, to the point that, with my birthday coming up later this month, I'm hoping that I get Halo 3.

Now that I mention that, it leads into the topic I want to discuss.  People and the dislike towards these things (Mainly what's sounding like, "They're hating it just because it's the cool thing to do" and "Being immature about their dislike.").  While there are two other games/series that I think get the same degree of hate, or close to it (Final Fantasy VII and the Grand Theft Auto series), I'll just focus on Halo.

My friend and I got another of our friend over to play.  It feels weird that someone that hates Halo playing multiplayer Halo 2 with us.  However, what got going was how much he was bashing Halo in an immature way.  A.  He goes saying, "Bungie doesn't listen to their fans!"  (Yeah, I'm sure Nintendo is paying attention to their fans by paying attention mostly to the casual gamers the have been pulling in).  B.  He was pretty much blaming Halo for Metroid Prime 3 being ruined (Because we all know casualizing Metroid to the point of seriously dumbing it down is not the reason that MP3 isn't ruined, not to mention Samus's other "awful" suit is Halo's fault).  That's the two big things but it's like I'm constantly hearing how much Halo sucks out of him.

After that, I'm wondering about this:

What gets people to get so vocal over their hatred of something that they act like they have some sort of superiority complex?  Do they actually think they're not being conformists by hating on the popular thing?

Now, I am aware I am guilty of doing the above before.  If bringing up something I did that relates to the above and answers my question, go ahead.

Honestly, it makes it feel like I'm not allow to see that there is some legitimate good in it.  Man, it just makes me feel so annoyed.

*Disclaimers.  1.  Don't take my comments toward Nintendo here too seriously.  I was trying to bring up a point.  2.  I have nothing against casual gamers and I don't intend in separating gamers just because I'm describing their playing habits, so don't let my statements think otherwise about my thoughts.

But yeah, that hatred is wierd.
We simply hate what we don't understand; or atleast that is the more common reaction. Still there are teh romantics who would love such unknown. And a final category being the sheep that are simply following the herd and are mirroring their surroundings (verbally/physically).

Since the romantics are usually 'wierd' and rare, and are of the second category; then you are most likely going to be falling victim of the heat towards something. Which means with 1s and 3s there is gonna be more h8 in da world!
However the 1's have hope, they still can form a new opinion once they experience the said unknown.
Yet the 3s will see them hypocritical and continue the h8.

With their h8 remaining, another sheep reflects, and then the next reflected, till they're all infected; the prairie.  Then the world!

By that logic, you might as well put the 2D Metroids in the same category as Mega Man. It doesn't make any sense to call something what it isn't.

I oddly enjoyed the Megaman Legends series. Really well done for their time. :O [though they didn't play as well as Musashi and Tales of Fate (Squaresoft); I'll never forgive myself for trading-in those games for credit; lol]

Rockman DASH is a great series, and it IS unfinished, and it is pretty posible Innafune will release a new Rockman DASH for the PSP (he released 1 and 2 so far, maybe a 3???)
Why is it unfinished?? Because Trigger didnt come back :3, no really that is the reason they should make another Rockman Dash (will they just let him get rotten in Elysium?? poor rock =[)

It certainly does.  Also, "I love going on message boards and complaining about games that are so damn popular!" also works too since they may or may not have played the game but still do it anyway as a way to supposedly "be cool", online or offline.

That was a very intelligent post.  I don't know what else to say about that.  I only can say that you showed how ridiculous the hatred is.

I liked Metroid Prime 3, found it to be the best entry in the series; more accessible and less elitist; yes... But not a casual game by any means. It's still no Halo though, thankfully.

I also don't think Nintendo is giving out that image, sure, Mario Galaxy 's first 60 stars are kinda easy, then again so was Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. But what I mean is... with GC in the first year we had very little, with Wii we already had one Zelda (inherited), a Mario game, a Paper Mario, Metroid Prime... And lots of smaller, yet worthy titles. Not too shaby. What's bad, is of course... the third party's focus and investment so far.
