So Tales of the Abyss is coming to the US and I have been playing the Japanese version for a little while. Is there anyway to convert my save so that I could use it for the US version? I know this will require it to be loaded onto the computer and be edited, but if it safes me the time of replaying the entire game and playing the US version as a +game first it would be worth it.

Hmm... It's probably going to be like Legendia and the files will be incompatable so yes, as you said, you would have to upload it to a computer and modify it. I don't know how that works, so I'll leave it to you to find how.

Anyway, the American version will have less incentive to play New Game+. Bandai Namco said that once you finish the American version and save, you can continue with the completed file and you can go back to places and obtain some things that required you to play New Game+ in the Japanese version.

So it won't be so bad if you can't convert your Japanese save.

Hmm well that is good and bad. Though I still kind of want to look into it, anyone even know how to get ps2 saves onto a computer? I had the device to do it for the psx but I haven't even seen it for ps2.

You'll probably have to buy a memory card that connects to computers via USB. That's how people upload game saves on GameFAQs and stuff. The drawback is that the person who wants to use them has to have the same thing as the person who uploaded. Codebreaker saves are incompatable with Gameshark saves and vice versa and same goes with any other USB-uploaded memory card saves. As to how to modify it, again I don't know. Try to find a forum that deals with this stuff, some gameshark forum or whatever.

I've done it with PS1 games but not PS2 games.

As long as the save format isn't different in ANY WAY (most cases this should be true) in the  target version, it shouldn't be too hard. I think all it really took in PS1 games was to change the product code to match the target game's.

Not a memory card. Just a USB flash drive and a Code Breaker. Also, PS2 Save Builder can convert saves for any PS2 save transfer product to saves for any other PS2 save transfer product. It's downloadable at www.ps2savetools.com
