Ouch. As a translator, I'm not sure there are more painful words than "lifeless" or "clinical." And certainly as a player it doesn't make me want to open up my wallet.
Having played Muramasa, the translation text is indeed clinical and sterile. While it does get the absolute gist of the dialogue, it's so inadequate and missing so much flavour it was absurd. There's something wrong when a good 30 seconds of voiced dialogue was summarised into a 6 second line. They ignored the stylistic and tonal features of the language used in the game. Momohime barely reads any different between her two 'personalities' with two very distinctly different attitudes and style. I'm actually glad they didn't bother dubbing the game since I would had missed a lot of the characterisation because the text was just so bland. And I would had missed Sawashiro Miyuki's performance.
I'm actually a bit annoyed I decided to play Momohime's route first because Kisuke's story is so.... snore...
I might make a quick recording to show the glaring difference between the text and the voiced dialogue when I dig out the drivers to my capture card.
