That's not very impressive. I've sold sealed GH FF7s for $150. And opened ones for $80.

FF7 is completely out of print. The release of Advent Children drove up the demand and spiked the value.

Same deal with Silent Hill and its movie, although not as drastically.

I got a second-hand Platinum copy of Final Fantasy VII years ago for about £15. I don't understand what all the fuss is over it though. I played it about 20 hours before finding that I thought the game was mind-numbingly dull, and stopped.

A bit of weird trivia too. The copy is in completely good condition, aside from the fact that it's missing a Final Fantasy VIII demo disc. Whether this was because someone genuinely wanted to keep it or because they felt it was too bad to inflict on whoever bought it next, I do not know.

From what I gather, FFVIII was a cult hit. According to my friend's pro-rantings about it, it turned a lot of people off because it was a love story and that it wasn't chibi-fied like all the other FFs at the time. He personally loves it and considers it the best Final Fantasy game.

WTcheese does chibi-fied mean? lol

FFVII was decent. I don't think it was really worth all the hype. I bet if it was 2-D it would of slipped under the radar.

I thought FF7 was totally amazing when it originally came out. It hasn't aged well. It puts me to sleep when I try to play it nowadays.

FFVII is one of my least favourite FFs.

For one, it introduced teen angst to the series, I don't appreciate that! Really simplified the gameplay to the point where characters felt like avatars for the materia system, on a similar note, there was no difficulty whatsoever either. The story was totally messed up and was filled with awesome moments mixed with really bad drawn out moments, same goes for the soundtrack; the characters were a mixed bag. I can see why it's popular and all, but I just can't see how it's the best Final Fantasy.

FFVI forever. Smiley

haha, I don;t know how I ended up here, but I hope you'll excuse me if I stick around.

Not that I don't like FFVII (I thought its world and story was complex and well fleshed out, actually), but seeing people talk about it without the "OMG it's the greatest thing ever!" factor and (rightfully, IMO) place VI above it is a rare thing.

Teen angst, lol.

characters felt like avatars for the materia system

With the exception of FF4, 9, and to lesser extent, 6 and 10, this is really the norm for the series. The battle characters tend to be slaves to the gameplay system.

on a similar note, there was no difficulty whatsoever either.

FF6 has this problem too. Wink

This is one of the big reasons why I'm in favor of a remake of 7. I think the abysmal translation the game received had a very severe impact on the storyline. Even while the PC version cleaned up some of the dialogue, it still reads like ass. A remake would  pretty much guarantee a new, competent localization overseas, I'd like to think.

I've thought this too. FF7 would probably really benefit from a proper remake. Problem is, I think Square-Enix are scared of their own game. Whatever they change, it's bound to make the more rabid (and therefore vocal) parts of the fanbase absolutely furious. They'd rather just leave it with 'classic' status and try to recapture the success with a new game.

They have a similar problem with Chrono Trigger too...

Personally, I think the rabid fans need to recognise that the original was very far from perfect even by modest standards, while still a good game despite that.

A competant remake (and retranslation) of FF7 would be a good thing, but listening to noisy whining rabid fans would make S-E bad 'parents'. If nothing gets changed in it, then a remake just would not bring in any new potential fans, thus being a complete and total waste of effort and money on S-E's part.
