I apologize is this sort of thing has been mentioned before, but the best online resource for Kanji that I've found is this:

It has sound clips and let's you search for Kanji by stroke count. So if you can tell how many brush strokes it would take to write it, you can look it up. I used that last night to find the character for "Haya" meaning fast for example (6 strokes).
