Can't we just mess with the description a little and say "A wave, shot from a sword slash, that leaves a vacuum in its wake." or something like that?

[EDIT]:  I'm bored, so I'm gonna try and make up English names for the moves.  I don't really care if they get used or are liked, I just need something to do in my scarce amounts of free time that's not enough to play video games in.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If some of the skill names are that 'ambiguous' in their translations, I would have no problem with having them rewritten a little differently so that they sound good, and make sense. The names don't have to be perfectly true to the Japanese meanings; I say contextualize a little and add some creativity, so I agree with Supersonic1453's idea here.

I second it.

閃光衝
高速の斬撃による真空波が渦を巻き、閃光となって敵を打ち上げる特技

For this skill, if I mess a little about translations and with the correct orders of the words in the sentence but stay with the original words, it can be something like :

Special Skills : Create a  vacuum wave from the combination of spark
and high speed winds in a eddy  to lauch a bright flash on the enemy.

That's a little too wordy though, also considering the character limit.

EDIT: If I had to rewrite a description for that skill, it would be like this:

Code:
Souhajin
Base: A sword slash fires a crescent wave
that leaves a vacuum in its wake.

Yeah, true about caracter limitation, I forget about that. Finally, a short description will be the best, specially if the text reflect the animation in the game.

The only thing I would change about that is the "along the ground" part.  Souhajin doesn't travel along the ground.  Looks good otherwise.

Why is this "eddy" tidbit being added to the Souhajin description?
If it's from incorporating wizeards, he was translating Senkoushou.

Yeah, Gogs is right, my translation is about Senkoushou and not Souhajin. In the description of Souhajin, they never write something about eddy. Souhajin is more about something like creating a wave in the shape of a crescent moon. Senkoushou in more about something like creating a eddy (が渦を巻き) with spark and high-speed winds in it and shoot it on the ennemy.

Ugh...I think I got mixed up because some descriptions weren't all labeled in English (I can hardly read any Kanji yet >_<)...Sorry, I'll reread and edit >_>

EDIT: Alright, how does this work for Senkoushou:

Code:
Senkoushou
Base: A turbulent slash fires a wave through
an eddy, hitting with a high speed flash.

I kinda wish I had easy access (debug room) to everything in the game like I do ToP.

Then I could possibly make videos or something to get more context of this stuff to aid accuracy.

Neither ND3 nor YouTube have everything we'd need to get it all right. Besides, we should be relying on the game itself for that sort of thing; ND3 doesn't display certain skills/spells entirely accurately if I recall correctly, and the same could be said of the quality of YouTube videos. The idea of having access to the debug room is having the real thing at Cless' fingertips.

Sorry for derailing the thread there, let's get back on topic.

Eh? I didn't mean it was a total solution to the problem, but it does work for it's purpose. ND3 displays spells and skills pretty accurately as far as execution goes. Most Tokugi's even have their extensions added and the spells are mirrored pretty nicely. YouTube videos would more or less get the idea done. I honestly don't see how it wouldn't be some help at all o_o;

Quote
Dark Technique: Seizes a struggling enemy and opens<LINE>
Slash Technique: Allows you to move undetected by<LINE>
the naked eye.<END>

...Hmm. How do we get these to fit in with the Base/Arcane/Mystic scheme? They're for artes with five kanji names, so I wonder if they can transparently all be generalized as "Arcane"? If you can link combo them, making them anything else might be confusing... shrug.

Also, I wonder if I'm getting a little too creative here...
Quote
#WRITE(ptr, $B781C)
// FF6B0
神の住まう天空から割砕するは人。<LINE>
すなわち俺奥義<END>
The user of this technique brings death from the Heavens.<LINE>
That would be me.<END>
//This is a really weird translation, but I can't think of how to word it better.

Arcane: "I descend from the Heavens to deliver death unto thee."

The original translation seems pretty tough to simply reword into something that sounds "normal"...

You guys have me COMPLETELY lost with all this vacuum/pressure wave/blah business. I'm not sure what to do with it...

I'm also having some trouble wrapping my head around some of these other descriptions. But it's probably due to the lack of context...

Sigh. ToP's menus were a piece of cake to translate compared this... what the hell happened?
