In looking at these, my first suggestion is that less is more.  Especially with a two-line max for each description.

On to the specifics:

//漆黒の闇の淵へ引きずり込む<LINE>
//上級晶術<END>

This was the only one I spotted that was incorrect.  It should read:
"Draws (the enemy) into a dark abyss."  The word power is not mentioned in the original, and へ means "into," not "from" (から).  I really hope someone else caught it before I did.  :/

//氷を風の力で粉砕し、敵にぶつける中級昇華晶術<END>
Mid-Ext: The strength of a powerful icy wind<LINE>
smashes into the enemy.<END>

This sounds like Engrish.  "Assails the enemy with a powerful icy wind." is shorter and more natural.

//血塗られた呪いの波動が交わる下級昇華晶術<END>
Low-Ext: The surges of a blood-stained<LINE>
curse cross paths.<END>

This one is a little tricky.  I would say, "Causes (two) cursed, blood-stained waves to cross."

//複数の石片を弧を描いて敵にぶつける下級晶術<END>
Low: Launch an arch of several stones<LINE>
at the enemy.<END>

You can do away with the arc bit and simplify it as : "Launches a hail of stones at the enemy."

魂に通ずるという「影」を貫く特技<END>
Special skill: Pierces the "Shadows" known to the soul.<END>

This is just a guess.   魂に通ずる literally means "known to the soul" but I'm unsure as to how to how it translates in contex.

Yeah, you're totally right about that.  A lot of the ones I did probably aren't quite right.  For one, I didn't have any context to put them in since I haven't played ToD2.  But yeah, on this one I even missed the details.

For this spell, is it an instant death kind of spell?  It sounds something like one.  I agree with what you said though.  Though I might suggest something with a more interesting sound to it.  Shikkoku no yami no fuchi seems to have a more powerful feeling to it than 'dark abyss'.  How about:

High: Drags the enemy into the eternal darkness of the black abyss.

Yeah, it doesn't say eternal.  But jet black darkness has that kind of feeling to it.  I agree with the other comments you made above too.  Feel free to check up on anything I did.  I'm really just an amateur, but the more correction I get, the better it helps me to do in the future.  Thanks.

What spell is that a description for?  I don't think there are any death spells in Destiny 2.

"lead to the soul", I would say.
"The skill which penetrates the 'shadows', said to be the window to the soul." (or "said to lead/connect to the soul")

漆黒の闇の淵 translates into "abyss of pitch-black darkness" (which is obviously overkill if there is already a space issue).

Some of the descriptions sound cool ^__^ Keep up the good work Wink

This is the skill list on gfaqs.  I don't know how accurate or correct it is so take from it what you will.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to say I made it or had anything to do with it.  I was just trying to bring it to his attention.

I don't like the way skills are romanized in that FAQ, Chirihazan? Majin Senrestsushou?

KusanagiLord02 and Stahn Alvein's FAQ Did it alot better.

I'm not surprised, they understand japanese MUCH better than I do and when I did that faq, I used the romanizations I read the most. I MIGHT re-update the faq with better romanizations, though.

Soo, how exactly do we go about doing tech names? Try to use some of the words that are atleast grabbed from a direct translation? So Senkoushou would be something like Light Rush or Flashing Rush? And Senkoushoutsui (the extension) would be like.. ..*grabs Thesaurus* Shining Crash? Luminous Crash?

I mean we probably can't go with naming Souhajin as Green Destruction Blade >_>

I dunno. I dread that part the most because NOBODY will agree on a single set, since they're so ridiculously open to interpretation.

It's sad how sensitive the skill translation issue is with a number of fans.

I wish we could borrow Peter Garza on this issue and let him give us his "unofficial" interpretation and leave it at that. But that's impossible.

Few of these skills are in any US Tales games, so it's hard to leech them...

True..hm.

You could leave it as the very last thing and and release some sort of alternative version. One version that uses your/our very own translations and names (that remain faithful) and another one that just uses romaji because most people are used to that (myself included, but I don't mind either way =P). Though it's probably too much extra work.

I think fans are over sensitive because the job dejap did on the movenames in Phantasia. Some of them are just outright terrible. I think as long as we can stay true to the words we can grab from there and the looks of the move, it might work out? I don't see this project getting many Psion Bolts-esque horrible names =P

IIRC, Cless talked about putting romanized named instead of each skill's katakana transcription. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway Cless, I agree that it is kind of a sensitive subject. But as we will probably never agree on a full set, you should either decide of the names yourself (at least YOU will be okay with the names, and I mean, it is your damn right) or entrust this matter to someone who, in your opinion, could do a good job, while keeping an eye on what he is doing.

edit > By the way, it's been a while since I last came here, and bam, I find this whole community translation thing X_X Can I still post my comments or did you gather enough opinions?

All I really want to comment on about tech names is translating accurately FIRST and THEN you can interpret/localize however the hell you'd like. If something is translated incorrectly from the get-go, the localization is bound to get further and further away from what it really stands for. And after a while, you might as well just use your own creative inventions; you'd benefit far more from that.

People just throw the kanji into dictionaries and translate them one by one, without knowing that the meaning is often strung together, or the definition they use isn't appropriate. Like 剛招来 for example, being translated as like "Sturdy Invitation".

o_O it's not something along those lines? i thought it was essentially something like "Strengthen", or "Power Up" (as in the verb, like what DBZ characters do). the english name (Coil) seems to come right from that...
