seems to be "From the Heavens where God dwells, crushing/pulverization dealt by one. That is my skill."
(the attack comes from the heavens, not necessarily the person, i don't think)
possible rewords:
"Arcane: It is I who shall deliver death from the Heavens unto thee."
"Arcane: Cleaving from the (Almighty) Heavens, such is my skill." (skill is used sorta differently here, ability instead of a move)
"Arcane: A strike from the (Almighty) Heavens (to smite thee), such is my skill."
(maybe sound more ballsy since it's Loni's move)

seems more like a "Arcane Arte: The one who rains destruction from the Heavens [where the Gods reside] is [a] Man, i.e., me."
like, he's saying that the 割砕 is being done by a [mere] human, despite coming from the heavens. so he's basically saying he's as mighty or mightier than the gods, or some poetic crap like that

I didn't notice until just now that すなわち俺奥義 is suppose to be another one of those ougis that have special names like 斬撃奥義 and 暗黒奥義 (all the 5 kanji skills). But the way Japanese does that makes it connective to the description, the translation shoves the class to the front. So I guess this is related to Cless' question about fitting it into the Base/Arcane/etc scheme. I suggested leaving it alone as Arcane or doing _____ Arcane, but seems like we could just reword the _____ into the description like you did and make them all generic Arcane class?

from the new archive:
Quote from: Karengeki
Base: Performs an amazing continuous<LINE>
attack.<END>
that "continuous" attack thing sounds a bit odd. perhaps something more like "combo" or "combination"? the kanji is 連続 (renzoku), which you might remember from renzokuken, etc.
Quote from: Senkoubappa
Arcane: Pummels the enemy with<LINE>
overflowing zeal.<END>
the "zeal" here is 気合 (kiai), which is generally a martial arts yell. i'm guessing the implication is that the shishisenkou-like energy wave that loni punches out is the result of his yell, similar to how shishisenkou is like a lion's roar, or something. i guess what we have works, especially since i can't think of how to word what i'm talking about.
Quote from: Kuuhatokkoudan
Arcane: Sweeps away the with a body slam,<LINE>
regardless of position.<END>
1. you're missing an "enemy" in there. should be "sweeps away the enemy".
2. ところかまわず (tokoro kamawazu) would probably mean "indiscriminately" here. which is sort of the same thing in the end as "regardless of position", but the latter sounds a bit silly.
3. 迷惑奥義 (meiwaku ougi) - loni's ougis all have special little titles. if you can slip those in somewhere in the description, that'd be great. for this one, it's "annoying"... i assume that means it's annoying to/troublesome for the enemy.
so maybe something like "Arcane: Indiscriminately sweeps away the enemy with an annoying body slam." the annoying is maybe a bit awkward, though... could use some rewording.
Quote from: Muhyoushou
Base: Strikes the enemy with an icy spear.<LINE>
Great when dodging an attack.<END>
the second line indicates that it's great to use it to reverse an enemy's attack, essentially. as in, instead of the enemy hitting you, you use muhyoushou, the enemy misses you, and the enemy gets hit by muhyoushou. the second line as written doesn't seem to be clear on this meaning, but i guess that might be due to space constraints. maybe "Great for dodging attacks." or something?
Quote from: Raijinshou
Base: Releases the power of thunder<LINE>
as a result of training.<END>
the part that was dropped was the "forming a mental image" part. like, loni keeps thunder in mind/forms a mental image of it/imagines it, then releases (its) power to attack, or something. the "result of training" is a bit awkward, though, especially if this part is added in.
perhaps something like "Base: Visualizes thunder and releases its power using the results of training."?
Quote from: Bakuenken
//I'm pretty sure that's NOT what this attack does...
but ZATTSU RAITO!
Quote from: Souhajin
//Umm... I guess this 'wave of wind' is really some kind of 'vacuum wave' or so
//the impression I get from the forum. I'm really at a loss what to do here.
//Perhaps some of these other 'wind' skills might be more vacuum wave crap...
i forgot the discussion we had on this, but it's saying something like: fires a projectile that formed as a result of the vacuum wave that formed as a result of slashing. my proposal was that this projectile be called a pressure wave, primarily because the vacuum wave thing doesn't really make logical sense.

Didnt even see this topic....or this catagory...
Anyways, In the main Tales Of Destiny 2 catagory I posted a topic with all of the arte, spell, technique, and ougi`s translated PROPERLLY with their side-by-side original japanese names.
I also included the names of the extentions and what they say when you use them (and of course what extention it is for what spell)
enjoy.

Do you want the Skill descriptions translated or would you be willing to take original descriptions (My friends say i'm pretty good at coming up with better descriptions than they have in-game)

I was under the impression that we wanted something that captured the original idea of the japanese names, but with an understandability that would allow people who did not understand japanese to be able to pick up and play it.
Also, to Nirvash, don't kanji often have multiple meanings, and in certain context cause them to mean something different? such as 斬 sometimes meaning "slash"? I'm asking just to make sure my understanding is not horribly off.

Kanji has different meanings depending on context and any characters its used in combination with. Sometimes a phrased that is picked apart kanji by kanji is not really what that phrase means. Instead, multiple kanji when used in combination with each other produce a meaning different from when each kanji is translated separately.

I know that it was posted back in January, but Cless and the others mentioned on page 4 about the extension/Mystic Arte to Divine Saber, and what it should be called, with it not looking like there was a definite decision.
For those who haven't seen the actual attack, it shows Rem appear in the sky, she creates a glyph in front of her, and then she shoots a bunch of light beams down on the enemy.
Anyway, as for the name, it seems to make the most sense to call it Sol Bright.
It sounds stupid, but it makes sense because of the name of Execution's (a dark-element tech) extension/Mystic Arte, which is Luna Shade.
Sol = spanish for sun
Luna = spanish for moon
Bright = an abundance of light
Shade = a place where light is weakened.
Sol Bright = the shining power of light
Luna Shade = the crippling power of the dark
really, it only makes sense because they are polar opposites, both in name and in their attack element.
I know this is nearly a year late, but I noticed that no one had said it yet (though Cless did notice the Sol/Luna connection)

another thread necromancy... you should read pg5.
Quote from: gogs on January 08, 2007, 02:28:26 PM
Sol/Soul Bright/Blight. I prefer Sol Blight or Bright. I think it's more about things associated with light than the spirit. I take Sol more as a reference to the sun/light than the name of the summon spirit. Sol Bright would be what I go for if I were to guess their Engrish intentions (things associated with light, being a light summon: sun->sol and bright), only problem is it's engrish (Cless' joke "So Bright!"). Sol Blight gets rid of the engrish, and blight can imply destruction/ruin besides a slow decay. Also, Sol contrasts with Luna/Lunar (referencing the darkness of the moon), Soul doesn't.
I should note that Blight isn't "supposed" to be completely accurate, it was a work-around that sounds/rhymes similar enough to not be as engrish as "So Bright". It's the same compromise as Prism Flasher -> Prism Crasher. It's not good, but it's a compromise.
PS: Sol and Luna are probably inspired from Latin than Spanish (all romance languages like spanish were derived from latin).

Hrmm... I guess it's time to set some things straight and possibly thoroughly explain some others?
I guess I'll start with Kyle/Johnny's Skills? >>;
I'm gonna just go with full romanji to make this easier to dissect.
---
Souhajin- Sou Ha Jin (basic kanji works out to Blue/Green-Destroy-Blade, if I may suggest Azure Edge[the Sou kanji is typically used Souten, or Blue sky, referencing the heavens] or even Breeze Edge[to fit the element]?)
Zangeki to, Shoujiru shinkuuha ni yoru tobidougu wo hanatsu tokugi. [Tokugi] wa tsuujougi kara renkei kanou
A skill that releases a flying vacuum projectile with its slash. [Skills] can be linked from normal attacks.
---
Chirihajin- Chiri ha jin (works out to Scatter Leaf Dust, which gets its name from the dust it kicks up during the move due to the high speed of the slashes. I haven't come up with a workable localized name yet.)
Mauki no you wo kirikomu hodo no kousoku no ken wo toridasu tokugi.
A high speed sword skill fast enough to cut falling leaves of a tree.
---
Kuushouzan (Sky Soaring Slash, I suggest, Sky Slash?)
Shunji ni kuuchuu he idou, Soko kara Ken wo Furiorosu tokugi.
A skill that moves into the sky in a moment, bringing down the blade during the drop.
---
Bakuenken(I know we probably have a working name for this so I'll skip this)
Jimen ni tsukitateta Kengeki ga hitto suru to, Mokuhyou no teki no ashimoto kara bakuen ga okoru tokugi
A skill that causes flame jets at the feet of the enemy by striking the ground.
---
Senkoushou (Senkou shou, Flash Rush/Impact, I'm not quite sure what would work here right now.)
Kousoku no Zangeki ni yoru Shinkuuha ga uzu wo maki, Senkou to natte teki wo uchiageru tokugi
A skill that utilizes a high speed slash to cause vacuum projectile to twist into a spiral, becoming a flash of light to launch the enemy.
---
Garensouhajin (Fang Linked Blue Destroy Blade, this works out to be a combination of Souhajin and Chirihajin, so...Breeze Rush?)
Ki wo matta renzoku kougeki kara shinkuuha wo hanattsu ougi. [Ougi] wa tsujougi to tokugi kara renkei kanou
A technique that releases a vacuum projectile from the air wrapped on the blade of the rapid strikes.
---
Kuuhazeppuugeki(Air Destroy Absolute Wind Hit, Blade Blast?)
Shinsoku no Renzoku tsuki ni yori, toppuu ga maki okori, teki wo fuki tobasu kouka wo motsu ougi
A technique that blows the enemy away using high speed stabs to create a sudden wind.
---
Toryurengekiha (Butcher Dragon Connected Hit Destroy, Dragon Destroyer?)
Taikuu kougeki kara no renzoku kougeki wo toridasu ougi
A rapid strike technique with anti-air defense in mind.
---
Shikuurensatsuken (Fast Sky Connected Kill Sword, Sky Render?)
Renzoku kougeki de kuuchuu ni uchiage, soshite shinkuu no yaiba de tataki otosu ougi
A technique that launches the enemy up with rapid strikes and then slams them down with a vacuum blade.
---
Ganzanmessaijin (Stone Slash Destroy Shatter Formation, Stone Shockwave?)
Daichi ni shuugeki wo atae, amata no iwakata wo fukitobasu ougi
A technique that hits the ground with a shockwave, sending multiple stone bits flying.
---
Extensions- You do NOT need descriptions for the extensions. However, I do not have any decent localization names yet, so I will describe the move instead
Souhasuiren (Additional two slashes to the enemy)
Chirihakareha (stabbing and extracting the blade from the enemy like it was a withered leaf)
Kuushoureppuu (after landing, a spinning slash that ends with a small vacuum tornado to launch the enemy)
Senkoushoutsui (an additional stab like the ending stab of Light spear cannon in ToS)
Ougis- I suppose we have enough of those youtubes to know how they look.
Ending note for the post: I realize that most of what is posted might by recycled information, but it really looks like you could use someone who's a little better versed in grammar structure.

Either can be used. The name comes from "Roman Characters". So if you're an English speaker, it would make more sense to say "Roman Ji". But the Japanese use the Italian Roma. Thus, "Roma Ji". It's a manufactured word, so neither is really right or wrong. I've seen both used. I myself used to use romanji but switched to romaji somewhere along the line.

The japanese is ローマ字, ro~ma ji, like you said. Since it's a Japanese manufactured word and not an English manufactured word, I'd go ahead and say that romanji is the wrong romanization. Sure, if you're an English speaker, roman makes more sense, but it's a Japanese term, right? Isn't using the Japanese "roma" the only accurate way to do it, even if the original Japanese isn't correct English grammar?
EDIT: Actually, if we want to be truly anal, it's rōmaji, but still, no "n".

yes, common mistake on my part.
And if you didn't really notice yet, most of the tech extension names are for show or even jokes and tend to be homonyms with words that actually mean the actual connection. (i.e. Souhasuiren's suiren can also mean added extension instead of the 'descriptive' Chasing Lotus)
Anyways, Loni's turn...
Soudashou (Double Strike Bell, The closest I can localize this is Double Fist, in Loni's case, the Bell probably means the heavy-handedness of his attacks)
Otoko no Kobushi wo majieta niren kougeki wo okonau tokugi
A skill that goes for a 1-2 punch with a man's fists.
---
Raijinshou (Lightning God Summon, localized can probably be Bolt Call?)
Shuugyou no seika de ikazuchi wo yobi okoshi, chikara wo kaihousuru tokugi
A skill that calls down lightning to release its power as a result of training.
---
Houtsuishou (Release Drop Bell, localized...I dunno...Impale Launch?)
Tsuranuita teki wo gouwan de furiageru tokugi, meichuuritsu ga hikui no ga nanda ga teki no tairetsu wo irekaeru ni wa naisu.
A skill that launches an impaled enemy. Its accuracy is low but being able somehow to change the enemy formation is nice.
---
Muhyoushou (Fog Ice Soar, localized Ice Lancer?)
Kuuchuu kara reiki no yari de teki wo tsuranuku tokugi. Teki no kougeki wo kawashi nagara dasu to suteki.
A skill that impales the enemy with a spear of freezing air in midair. Dodging the enemy's attack while using it is wonderful/awesome.
---
Bakkaishou (Explosive Ash Bell, localized Slammer?)
Sore wa mou kyouryoku na furioroshi de, daichi wo shinkan saseru tokugi
A skill that makes the ground shake with a powerful strike to the earth.
---
Kappabakusougeki (Split Destroy Explosive Run Hit, localized...Splitting Rush?)
Furioroshi kara hikikomu, Tosshin de oitsumeru maemuki ougi.
A technique that drags the enemy in with a down strike before rushing forward to close in on them.
---
Kuuhatokkoudan (Sky Destroy Special Attack Bullet, localized Kamikaze Dive?)
Teikuu kaiten taiatari de tokoro kamawasu fukitobasu meiwaku ougi
A troublesome skill that blows away anything with a low altitude spinning tackle.
---
Senkoubappa (Battle Roar Explosive Destroy, Impact Buster?)
Afureru Kiai wo rokotsu ni tataki tsukeru bakuretsu ougi
An explosive technique that hits the enemy with zeal.(Zeal is what the thread agreed to be kiai, I heard)
---
Shinkuukassaijin (God Sky Split Shatter Man, localized Divine Cleave?)
Kami no sumau tenkuu kara kassai suru wa hito. Sunawachi ore ougi.
Man splits the skies from even god's place. In other words, my technique. (really hard to word this one, honestly)
---
Extensions
Soudarenshuu (A double kick to the head)
Raijinkourin (following the lightning summoning, Loni executes a jumping downslash with his energized weapon)
Houtsuihoutsui (After launching the enemy, loni swings the weapon around and launches a blast of air at the airborne enemy.)
Muhyoutsuisen (After the ice lance, Loni comes down blade first before stabbing straight)
Bakkaimoutsui (After the initial strike, Loni jumps and comes down vertically blade first, causing rocks to fly up on both sides.)
Ougis
While it's easy to translate the first three, I'm gonna fully dissect this goddamn long "original" ougi.
震天裂空斬光旋風滅砕神罰割殺撃
Shintenrekkuuzankousenpuumessaishinbatsukasatsugeki
Heaven Shaking Sky Rending Flash Slash Whirlwind Exterminate Shatter Divine Punishment Split Kill Attack
and the failure version.
震天裂空斬光旋風滅砕神罰・・・攻撃ぃ
Shintenrekkuuzankousenpuumessaishinbatsu...kougekii
Heaven Shaking Sky Rending Flash Slash Whirlwind Exterminate Shatter Divine Punishment...ATTACK!
...I wonder if Cless has figured out how much we can stuff into that top status bar...
