This is a little late in coming, but... here's a patch to play with.

Download patch for the original version (Japanese original and Asian Japanese original releases)
Download patch for the reprint versions (Mega Hits and PlayStation 2 The Best releases)


How to patch:

1) Rip your game DVD to ISO format with ImgBurn (do not use any other formats!).

2) Extract the contents of the 7z file to a directory, like say, C:\ToD2. Move the ISO you just ripped to that directory as well. Rename the .delta patch file if you want to make it shorter.

3) Run patch.exe. Follow the prompts. If everything went well, it'll take a few minutes to create the patched ISO.

4) Burn the ISO to a writable DVD and play it in your modded PS2. You can also try the PCSX2 emulator, but it doesn't run the game very well and has serious issues that break some of the game features.

Alternate step 3 for more advanced users: Command line usage for Xdelta3 is:

xdelta3 -d -s inputfile patchfile outputfile


Remember... this is a pre-alpha. Anything and everything is subject to change in the future. Not everything planned for the main release is available. If you're expecting something of final quality, you're insane.


Known issues
1) The font size for skill names is tiny and probably unreadable on SDTVs or barely readable on HDTVs. Not fixable until I have access to a good debugger.

2) Character sprites/portraits in the menu may flicker at times. Harmless, but annoying.

3) "New Recipe" appears as "New R" in the cooking menu. Attempts have been made to investigate the cause, but this won't be fixable without a good debugger, either.

4) Grammar for some messages (especially in the cooking menu) might seem a bit funny. The string concatenate routines are still very much tied to the Japanese grammar so it's difficult getting these to sound natural.

5) The number of characters allowed for renaming a custom recipe is rather limited. Don't rename if you can't fit the new name within 12 characters.

6) Continuing with a save based on the Japanese version will have a couple minor issues: 1) Your recipe names will still be in Japanese, and 2) The last names for characters with last names will appear to be blank. This is because these the game stores these things in the save file. This issue will not affect new games started with the patched version.

7) "Preview" on the title screen will crash a patched Mega Hits / PS2 The Best game. This is because the patch literally transforms the these reprint copies back into the original version, but without the files belonging to the preview. The code to access the Preview option is still in the game, so the option still appears. Nothing can be done about this right now. Including the files required for the preview would add 150MB+ to the patch file.

8) Some slot name descriptions are longer than the window (and the screen) allows. I'm trying to find a solution into repositioning that stuff...



I'm hoping this will be of use to people wanting to contribute to the project. Seeing things in context could help a lot.

Erk, sorry. I don't have much experience with command line based programs.. but it keeps giving me a "file open failed: tod2e.iso: the system cannot find the file specified" error.

I'm typing xdelta3: -e -s tod2.iso tod2e.iso tod2.delta (Sorry I renamed it so I could retype it easier)

Any help with that? Everything is in the same directory.

Weird that it would say that about an output file...

Your example mentioned the patch file being called tod2.delta (which it isn't in the 7z archive). Did you rename it to that before running it? I find myself reproducing the error you got when the incorrect patch file name is entered.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned that I renamed it in my other post. I re-extracted the .delta file and typed it in with that filename..but I still get the same error.

Well, that's embarrassing. I gave out the directions for creating a patch file. Try this:

xdelta3 -d -s tod2.iso tod2.delta tod2e.iso

Okay! ..for some reason that took like 45 minutes to burn. I guess this computer isn't suited for burning..anyways

The display seems to not fit my TV much anymore. Like the main menu boxes are positioned so that I can only see a little a little more than a half and down. I have to set the display settings to atleast Y6 to get the whole box in view. I don't think that was a problem originally.

- Also, um. Any reason why Shadow Edge and Vortex Heat has "Low-Ext" for it's classification? None of the other spells are like that..

- The description for Loni's Shinkuu Kassaijin looks odd. "O'l decend from the Heavens to deliver death unto thee. 'C" ?

- Judas' Funjin Reppashou's description runs off the screen. "Causes an explosion by sitting up a (off the screen) and making a spark with two swords.

- Did you miss Radiant Mythology's translation for Gessenkohou (Gessenkou's extension)? It's Moon Fall.

- Oh and Shouha Rekkousen's translation was Light Blast. But..eh.

- Hah, it looks like you guys couldn't decide on a description for Souhajin still? I didn't think that debate was still going on XP

I'm sorry if I'm only pointing out the obvious. I wasn't sure what other things you wanted us to look for.

My old TV's overscan always cut them off a bit because they are displayed at the extreme top of the screen. Games usually have something to compensate but this game doesn't for some reason...

Description stuff

I haven't really messed with them since that thread. There's a lot of work that needs to be done to them.

I'm sorry if I'm only pointing out the obvious. I wasn't sure what other things you wanted us to look for.

Just looking for any text cleanup suggestions.  Maybe translations for the untranslated stuff...

Yay a release, that is so awesome Cless. I can't wait to get home and give it a try. It is true that things have kind of been sagging around here despite your continued progress on your projects. I would recommend and update at RomHacking.net or something.

Maybe vortex heat's description has an error? Since it seems that extensions aren't supposed to even appear in the main spell list... but indeed, the Japanese description suggests it's an extension...  Bang Head

kyle has vortex heat as a normal spell for some reason, that's not an error. shadow edge shouldn't be an extension, though.
