Well, ever since getting that leg infection, I've changed my course. Resident Evil 4 Wii came out and hooked me for a good while. I've been settling now and for some reason my motivation went towards ToP. Although there have been no new big breakthroughs on ToP, I'm just working out some of the smaller things that remain, although this item description formatting sure is taking a LONG time.

So how exactly do you add to it with having just about anyone able to post a translation? This just seems a little awkward to me.

By the way.

Oh, in 6826.txt that "掛け合い" line would be translated as Negotiator or could be diplomat. Though "合い" on it's own means accomplice. But "掛け合い" literally means negotitian, but propbably reffering to a 'negotiator. I have no clue how this fits in with the game either.

I'm not sure how else to do this short of making a wiki or something (which, I'm really not in the mood to set up).

If a topic for a particular subject doesn't exist, make one. If one does, post in it. There's no titles topic, so making one would be fine. It's probably best to ignore posts that predate the file archive, unless there's an ongoing issue.

All stuff concerning the 6XXX.txt files should go under the "Menu files topic" topic.

I decided to update to the latest file since I haven't worked on it awhile, but it contains most everything done on this forum up until now. Plus I also did some preliminary work on the titles.

do you really need a full translation? the item descriptions are prettymuch self-explanatory. it says HP+30+ or in blue it says +100atk it usually explains mroe than enough for most rpg`ers

Cless' goal with all of these projects has never just been a simple translation.  His goal, at least as I've understood it, has been to produce a full localized patch.  Meaning that excluding the Japanese audio, the game will look just like other Tales games that are available in the US.  It's the same reason that many of the item, location, and tech names are being changed to match their localized counterparts.  After putting so much effort into these projects, why would he want to do it half way at this point?

Pretty much. The idea is to strive for the most professional-looking job you can, not skimp corners and look like a fool. Sure, the ToD2 project probably doesn't comparatively look quite as professional technically as our ToP PSX one, but it's the damn best we can do right now. It's almost a miracle it looks as good as it does.

Kajitani-Eizan, there's no genderizing in the sentence so it could be male or female. Only way to find out is if someone plays the game and finds it's context.

The wiki is good, but... if someone messes it up by accident or by purpose. And I do immagine with such a large file that people have missed mistakes others have made. I find the best way of doing it is give a script to a tight knit team of people who know what they're doing. Like me, Irillian, and Deuce will through stuff at each other if we're not sure of something, or the wording of a sentence, which does happen. And if you get someone to check if it's all right, he might as well of translated the game too. This probably has been mentioned, but Klarth directed me here, so I'm new to the forums and a tad lazy to actually look through them all for this topic.

But you know, I can translate some stuff, then I find out someone already did, and then I'm sad. Sad

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I'm just not sure how effective and correct a public wide translation is...

At the very least, we've got someone working on the script outside of this forum.

I had a difficult time finding someone who wanted to do menu work alone and I really wanted some progress on it. Since I knew some people around here had some skill with Japanese and are more familiar with the game than I am, I started this up and the result has IMO has been pretty good. It's nearly finished and just needs some holes filled.

I do a lot of scrutinizing to make sure things add up before placing them in the files, and have started doing playtesting to make sure of things. If something seems off and I can't correct it, I bring it up.

I suppose I can see where you're coming from though. I'd guess it'd be overwhelming to jump in and not be sure of what's done and what isn't... which is part of the reason why I started the "stuff that needs worked on!" series of threads... though I haven't posted in them in awhile due to focusing on the ToP project and other things.

The script download is down, by the way.

eh, I don't think mass or tight-knit translation accuracy is the real problem (because it's open and it can be reviewed again and again), just missing something random that's totally wrong in final editing but nobody else knows about it since it's not shared...

Switched a term, dropped a sentence, translated something a certain way even though it's not right, it's hard for testers to tell in the finished product even if they know the material since there's not gonna be side-by-side Japanese. It leaves it to one of those WTF moments when someone finally spots it, and that's never good. Not reliable for the game's mythos and just spreads misinformation. (something like 数千年 to "a millennia ago" causing ToP's Ragnarok period to be much much closer)
