This thread is no longer being used. It has been succeeded
by this one
.
Download all of the menu text files
(updated as of 8/1)
We're quite far along now.
Maybe as a community, we can get this menu finished relatively quickly. It's really getting kind of lame that Phantasian Productions is now
6 years old
and still hasn't seen a single game translation patch. I'm willing to bet right now that we have skeptics out there who think we're a bunch of phoneys because of that. So let's prove 'em wrong.
This thread has now been split into a subforum
. If you are coming here from a direct link from elsewhere than this forum, the subforum with all topics is
here
. This thread should no longer be used to post ideas.
About the files
EDIT: The files themselves now have relevant info.
If you can and want to contribute to this effort
This isn't just about the translation. This is also about polishing and editing.
If you see something you think you can word better or notice something that seems to be translated a little awkwardly, by all means post your ideas.
Our project is not about being literally accurate at every turn. If you have some english writing skills and can add some extra punch to the writing without missing the point or changing things too drastically, we welcome and encourage creative input. Post anything you come up with, it'll go into consideration.
Don't edit the files directly. Post or PM your translations or edits. If I like them, I'll use them, and probably update the RAR of files to the latest version.
I also have this on romhacking.net
.

Cless, how about marking the threads themselves with some kind of percentage or indicator of how much is done. Because for stuff like the Item List that I did, all we really need now is Editing. So would it be a good idea to mark the beginning or ends of the threads with something? Like [Translation: Complete, Editing: In Progress] or something? Might not really be needed, but I thought it might be helpful for people like me who are still trying to figure out what has and hasn't been translated.

That's hard for me to define since during this phase I'm hesistant to call anything "final"...
(also, getting back on this today. I split the original post into multiple topics and just felt like retreating from the project from the day)

I seem to be having a small problem... Now I've had Japanese language support and a Jpn-IME for a while, but those characters just won't display correctly if they're saved in a plain .txt notepad format---the encoding has to be unicode at least. So unless there's another language support package I can download that someone can help refer me to, maybe you could make a simple adjustment to all the .txt files and save them all with a unicode encoding, that or change the file formats to .rtf (rich text format) so japanese characters won't come out garbled for some of us.
I'm sorry to ask you Cless, but would that be okay though?

As its legality is questionable I won't provide it directly Google for "scph1001.bin" or "scph7502.bin".

That did nothing, as I knew it would. However it doesn't really matter so much anymore, since I just got JWPce, which I can now use to view everything easily enough.

Yeah, these files use SHIFT-JIS. Unless you set the language for non-unicode programs to Japanese you won't be able to read it unless you use a Japanese word processor.

You have to configure Windows XP for it. You have to tell it to default to Japanese for the language of programs, and extend the text support to all applications. That will make Notepad and Wordpad display the Japanese text. ANyone who frequently uses Japanese text in plain text files, or needs the support for Japanese programs would already do this, if they just flat out aren't already running Japanese Windows. Mac OS has had the text support built into the OS for a while now too, since OS 9 and maybe earlier. *NIX OSes have also had the support. It's just not always enabled by default so as to not confuse the users that know nothing about the language and wouldn't need the text, who are the majority.

Geez, just throw the text file onto an internet browser. If it has foreign language support like Japanese, it will naturally read Shift-JIS. You don't even need a JWP since you're not doing direct edits. And there's no real need to change regions unless you're running programs (and you can simulate regions with AppLocale).

This... kinda died, huh? I've been a bit wrapped up with other things the last several days. Hopefully I can kick-start this back up soon...

I was out of work half a day Monday and all day Wednesday due to weather.. so the days I've actually been at work I've been a little extra busy because of that. I've got a pretty light week coming up next week.. so I can probably finish up what I set out to do VERY quickly.

I kinda stalled out on it. School has started back up and well, a lot's going on. I'll try to help out if I get some time though. We made a lot of progress really fast, then it seems that everyone started dragging at the same time.

Well, I did a small chunk of the skills list, but I've had other projects to work on. Plus, I'm moving to another apartment and will be without power for 3 days (seriously). Unfortuately right now translating is rather low on my list of priorities. :/

I'll probably get started back on the remaining equipment today (or tomorrow).
What all would be left after that?

Recipes still aren't completely done but highfly is working on those. I don't know if I"ll have time to get back to them.
The spells are mostly done, but I don't think any of the Tokugi/Physical skills have been done. So that section probably needs the most work.
I forget where we were on items.
That's all I can think of at the moment.
