Hope this helps. This mass translating things still feels wonky to me. Well if someone points me to where the bulk on the rest of the translating needs to be done that would be great.

lol. i'm pretty sure that's not what they were going for. something more like Awesome Combo, or Gorgeous Combo? or some other ending word besides Combo that conveys the same idea.

but yeah, watch out with the skills. i would imagine that cless would want to follow hometek's lead on these, and some of them were already translated in tales of the abyss and radiant mythology.

I was laughing at that too. It's what it says, but you know, it was late, and not like I could figure out some cool way of putting it.

I'd go with Awesome combo. Gorgeous Combo sounds, well, not like an attack that's for sure. Who's this hometek guy anyways?

Maybe I can find the moves on a gamefaq? Then I could switch them. So which character's skills would these be?

Some of us had poked at the some of the skills a while back, but I'm not even sure how many of those names and descriptions stuck.  I moved on to doing other things and didn't keep up with the skill names and descriptions, so I'm really not sure what the status is on them.  That was my problem in general, which is why I stopped trying to submit things and just started keeping up with Cless' translate-as-you-go threads until he got sick.

Though even if there is an english version of a certain attack it can always be changed later. At least with these even if they aren't the exact same, people can still understand what they are. And usually someone will point out that move used to be called something else. But that's assuming inserting into the game is an easy task. With Gideon's stuff I've been working on, he can reinsert text on the fly, so it's not a problem.

Also the fact that the script will have to be gone back into later after testing because as like that Sexy Waiter thing I mentioned, it could also be Sexy Waitress, but you can't tell without context. Well that's why there's betas of everything.

Also that and I don't know who's doing the move, though I could probably guess. But I don't really like guessing.

Besides, better to have a full beta menu translated with not exact NA localization, then a half translated script with full NA localization. Though again, my opinion.

But I don't think there's as much of a hurry on things as you think there is.  Maybe I'm wrong, but once again, Cless' current focus is currently elsewhere, so there's no need to be in a big rush to get everything done here.  Basically I'm saying that we're not short on time, so we don't have to decide between half-complete or imperfect.  We have the time to make sure everything is done right from the beginning, which will make the beta testing and corrections that much easier.

I guess I'm just used to Gideon's torturous whippings. "WHY ISN"T MD2 DONE YET?!!!!1!!111 *WHIP*" "Isn't two weeks plenty of time to finish translating a game?! Angry(((((((" And if Gideon reads this, I didn't say it. Shocked *Puts on whip repellent*

hometek = namco hometek, ie, the guys who are officially translating symphonia, legendia, abyss, radiant mythology, etc.

definitely look on gamefaqs to figure out which character has what skills. in this case, the first four are harold's (the pink-haired girl, who's a mage with a staff and knives), while the rest are nanaly's (the darker pink/red/whatever haired girl, who's an archer).

It'd be easier if I could find JPN names of past skills to compare... Oh well, I'm not going to beat my head over it too much.

I'll go ahead and toss in what Radiant Mythology and Abyss have newly translated.
(You know what sucks? They did a few of Nanaly's attacks in Abyss, and then completely translated them differently in Radiant Mythology.. *bangs head on desk*)

stick along for the long haul, it's a years-long kinda hobby~
i know it's not final but doesn't Awesome/Gorgeous Combo sound awkward for a skill name? Sounds like something the announcer says in a fighting game (AWESOME COMBO!).

Sexy Waiter is correct. (Loni XD)
The titles in general I suggest knowing the chara they belong to first.

anyway, this is sorta why I'm more in support of mass translation than not. Most translators doing the work for this game haven't played it to know the details or context. Ideally, translators know the game and editors know the game and are fluent in JP. But realistically it's sorta neither here. So I think it's better to translate openly and getting it right from the get-go so there's less room for contextual errors that testers may or may not catch~

I really wasn't around much yesterday but yeah. I think it may be time to start working on the arte names, even if they still won't be part of the release. But we should get the official Abyss/RM names rounded up, and then try to stylize the remaining ones to a similar fashion where possible.

Anyone know of any moves from other recent US-released games that aren't exactly the same but maybe influenced or possibly related to any ToD2 ones?

Also, I think our character limit for the names will be around 16 and 18. If that isn't enough, it'll probably be possible to add more whenever font size modding is possible.

Okay, my obession with keeping track of localization names for techs finally comes into use! Go me.

In Radiant Mythology, they REALLY use the word "Havoc" alot with a bunch of Ougi, just so you know.

So, anyways, stuff that's in ToD2j that are also in Radiant Mythology and Abyss or whatever and now have names aaaare..

Code:
----
Kyle
----

Souhajin [蒼破刃] Azure Edge - This is actually kind of a whoopsie. See, Souhajin is colored blue in Radiant Mythology, but is also elementless. I think
Hometek will probably shoot themselves in the foot if they localize the games this has been in, where it's actually Wind. So basically if you just change
'Azure' to some other word for 'Wind' you'd probably hit where Hometek is aiming here.
Garen Souhajin [牙連蒼破刃] Azure Storm - See above
Ganzan Messaijin [岩斬滅砕陣] Slag Assault
Wind Slash [ウィンドスラッシュ] Wind Slash - I'm actually surprised they kept this the same, since the name is as basic and bland as it looks.
Burn Strike [バーンストライク] Burn Strike
Kuuha Zeppugeki [空破絶風撃] - Sonic Blast

-----
Judas
-----

Geneijin [幻影刃] Phantom Edge
Gessenkou [月閃光] Moon Glare - Oddly enough this is a dark element attack in Radiant Mythology, but I don't think it had any effect on the name
Gessenkohou [月閃虚崩] Moon Fall
Houryuu Zankouken [崩龍斬光剣] Dragon Glare
Majin Rengokusatsu [真神煉獄刹] Infernal Suffering - I hear the kanji used here is the Judas version and not the Leon version, incase you guys bring
this up when naming things.
Shouha Rekkousen [翔破裂光閃] Light Blast
*Shadow Edge [シャドウエッジ] - This wasn't used anywhere, but you'll probably want to know that Hometek gave another move in Radiant Mythology this name
Negative Gate [ネガティブゲイト] Negative Gate
Wind Slash [ウィンドスラッシュ] Wind Slash
Air Pressure [エアプレッシャー] Air Pressure

-----
Reala
-----

Heal [ヒール] Heal
Aqua Spike [アクアスパイク] Aqua Spiral - Oh GOD you have no idea how pissed off I am about this, see my rant a couple months ago on renaming skills to
other skills. They finally fixed their naming of God Breath to Judgment after Radiant Mythology, since Judgment and God Breath were in the same game.
Now say that there's another cross-over down the line with Reala and Fog/Max' full skillsets, it'l come back to bite them in the ass >_>;
Wind Slash [ウィンドスラッシュ] Wind Slash
Raise Dead [レイズデッド] Resurrection
Splash [スプラッシュ] Splash
Air Pressure [エアプレッシャー] Air Pressure
Burn Strike [バーンストライク] Burn Strike
Resurrection [リザレクション] Revitalize
Embrace End [インプレイスエンド] Final Embrace
Ancient Nova [エンシェントノヴァ] Ancient Nova

------
Nanaly
------

Rekkasen [烈火閃] Flare Shot
Senhyousen [扇冰閃] Ice Shot - In Abyss this was Frigid Glare, dunno why they renamed it.
Garensen [牙連閃] Storm Glare
Tsuiyousen [墜陽閃] Glimmer Shot
Kokuusen [虚空閃] Void Shot - This has no element in Radiant Mythology
Ryuuensen [龍炎閃] Wyrm Shot
Wind Slash [ウィンドスラッシュ] Wind Slash
Aqua Spike [アクアスパイク] Aqua Spiral - See ranting above, blah blah moan whine
Burn Strike [バーンストライク] Burn Strike
Splash [スプラッシュ] Splash
Embrace End [インプレイスエンド] Final Embrace
Ancient Nova [エンシェントノヴァ] Ancient Nova
Wild Geese [ワイルド・ギース] Wild Greese

------
Harold
------
Cure [キュア] Cure
Divine Saber [ディバインセイバー]

I got tired of putting down the same spells for everyone, so eventually you see the lists thinning themselves out because I just didn't include what other characters had, sorry about that.

Loni's entirely skipped because only his spells have localized names, and everyone else has those.

Hope this was helpful, Nanaly's pretty much already done for you!
